Supplies
- 3/4 cup Mayonnaise
- 6 Tablespoons Sugar
- 5 teaspoons White Vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 Teaspoons Lemon Juice
- 1/8 teaspoons Salt
- 1 teaspoon Celery Seed
- 2 Tablespoons Onion (minced)
- 1 Package Coleslaw mix (or 6 cups of shredded cabbage & 1/4 cup of shredded carrot)
KFC's Coleslaw Style
The unique thing about KFC's coleslaw is the size and texture as you can see in the picture on the left. It's very finely diced and doesn't have the long 'strands and strings' of cabbage you find in many grocery store coleslaw mixes.
Good news though. There's a brand of coleslaw mix that is nearly identical to the size and texture of KFC's that you can find in some grocery stores. This saves lots of tedious chopping and dicing.
The name of the product is Chef Buddy's Southern Slaw Diced Cabbage & Carrots, pictured above on the right.
It resembles the KFC texture and size perfectly and it's inexpensive too.
If you can't find it, you can use any cabbage & carrot coleslaw but chop the long strands of cabbage into dice. Or, if you have one, toss it into a food processor and give it a half dozen pulses to get that small diced texture.
You could also go old school and manually chop and dice your own cabbage and carrots.

Gather Your Ingredients
Here's what you'll need:
- 3/4 cup Mayonnaise
- 6 Tablespoons Sugar
- 5 teaspoons White Vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 Teaspoons Lemon Juice
- 1/8 teaspoons Salt
- 1 teaspoon Celery Seed
- 2 Tablespoons Onion (minced)
- 1 Package Coleslaw mix (or 6 cups of shredded cabbage & 1/4 cup of shredded carrots)
Combine and Whisk
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, except the coleslaw mix.
Whisk the ingredients with a wire whisk or a fork until you have a smooth dressing.
You shouldn't have any lumps of mayonnaise when you're done.
Finished Dressing
Your finished dressing should resemble this picture when it's mixed well.
Mix
Combine the dressing and coleslaw and mix and fold until it's thoroughly coated.
Refrigerate
After everything is mixed place your coleslaw in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours so the flavors come together. Making it in the morning and refrigerating it until dinner works great. The colder it gets, the better it tastes.
Dig in
Enjoy your coleslaw with anything from fried chicken to ribs to hot dogs and make sure you give a salute to ' The Colonel '.
