KEEPING A BERET PROPERLY

I'm spanish (from Spain). So, excuse my english. I hope everything could be figured out, more or less. I'll put it in spanish also (someone could compare both).

As part of my winter clothes, beret deserves to be treated with the same care as the rest of the clothes. My beret was given to me many years ago by my wife. I do not know if she bought it small, or my head has grown during this years. The result is that I had to rip the strip and widen, and sewing again. During the process I've been looking for how to stow it in the closet. The result, I'll show you next.

I hope it will be usefull or, at least, curious.

RIGID CARDBOARD OR A SOLE (FOR SHOES) PIECE OF 3 MM THICKNESS

It's about cutting two circles.
The major will have the inner diameter of the beret, which will be approximately the one obtained when measuring the diameter of the beret on the outside, minus 5 mm. (rather than the thickness of the beret cloth). It will be trimmed from the cardboard piece (or from the sole) 5 mm thickness.

The circle is cut in half.

The smallest one is trimmed of 2 cm thickness mycroporous EVA. and corresponds to the size of the head (in my case 58 cm) or inside the beret (the part that fits over the head).

You can see the pieces in the first photo.
Then one of the halves is inserted inside the beret and well fitted to the edge, then, insert the other half through the interior and fit it with the other part, so that the cut line will match the diameter (not overlapping one part over the other). (photo 2)

Two cardboard circles can be used instead of one and placed with the both axes perpendicularly to give greater stiffness. I have not put the photos of the rigid outsole instead of the cartons because it's black and wouldn't be distinguished in the photos.

Finally, fit the small piece inside the beret, which prevents the two previous pieces from bending, keeping the beret perfectly stretched. (photo 3)

It will always be as new.
