Junk Drawer Unhinged Hat - Anything Goes

I recreated this hat from my old high school photos. Believe it or not, but I actually wore something similar to my prom. Apparently, I was a very confident teenager.

The eye-catching (or migraine inducing) colours, textures and the overall mess is actually a great representation of my personal fashion style at that time. I kind of dressed a little bit like that on a daily basis. Now, as an adult with a boring job and a boring wardrobe, I don't have a lot of options to express myself other than through my arts and crafts. So, this hat will never be worn, but it will be displayed alongside my other, weird and wonderful creations.

Supplies

>The base of the hat is made with a few paper plates/ paper bowls stacked and glued together.

>Some scrap paper and PVC glue for paper mache

>Hot glue and PVC glue

>Vibrant fabric to cover the hat (thick fabric like felt or canvas)

>Some elastic for a headband

>Anything weird and colourful you can find for decorations:

>>>scraps, feathers, bows, paper butterflies, pom-poms, fabric trim, fake jewels etc

>For the yellow netting: nylon netting used to package lemons

Stack a few paper plates and join with hot glue or PVC. Mix a few teaspoons of PVC glue with water - 1:1 ratio. Prepare a few handfuls of scrap paper for decoupage. Apply water-glue mixture to the plate, inside and outside, and glue the paper scraps to the surface all over. Leave for a few hours to dry and harden.

Drill or poke a few small homes in the hat to make space for the elastic tape. Thread it through and tie off. Add some hot glue for security.

Apply undiluted PVC to the outside of the hat and cover with chosen fabric. Smooth all over and flip to glue the edges to the inside of the hat.

Let your creative juices flow and decorate the hat. More is better and weird is good.

Good luck.
