Irazu is an option for families with members who need a mouth mouse but do not have the resources to purchase these devices.

Although low-cost device designs exist, these designs require specialized tools such as 3D printers and complex circuitry to build.

Irazu, unlike the designs made so far, is a manual in electronic format, which shows families or caregivers, how to assemble a Joystick mouth mouse, only needing:

a GAmepad or any other video game control.

Some recycling parts.

And basic electronics.

There are 3 things that make this project innovative: 

1 It is designed to offer a practical and free tool for people with quadriplegia / tetraplegia who need a sip and puff joystick; but for economic or distribution reasons, the family cannot buy one.

2 this project uses resources that can normally be found almost anywhere,

focusing attention on the recycling of soda caps; the reuse of video game controls and pens, and the reduction of resources: using the basic electrical material, which can be easily acquired in any electronics.

3 Irazu offers a simple alternative, without the need for expensive infrastructure or specialized equipment for its preparation.

Supplies

Hot glue gun.

Cutter / Scissors.

Flat cable.

Game pad.

Balloon #7.

Pencil.

Plastic bottle caps.

Microswitch.

Mini Drill Bits

Drill.

Clips.

Teflon Tape

We will check in the "mouse emulator" of the computer:The configuration and control of the mouse movements, with the joystick of the gamepad.

the assignment of the mouse click to the L2 trigger of the gamepad, which is the one that we will connect with our switch.

Now...

We locate all the screw holes. and we remove all the screws,

Gently, we remove the side pieces of the plastic container of the Gamepad.

We locate the electronic board that has the button that presses the L2 trigger

The following steps will be carried out on welding points 1 and 2.

With the cautin, we solder each flat cable to each union points.

Attention:

The welding points must be separated.

Without touching it each other in any way

Gently remove the screws from the joystick plate.

We will pull up gently, to separate the thumbstick from the joystick control.

With the "Mini Drill Bits", from the smallest to the bigger, we begin to make a hole in each compartment that we select.

We pass each cable through the holes, from the base to the top of the Thumbstick.


We place it back the thumbstick

and we reassemble the control by putting all the pieces back into place.

we left out 2 casing screws that are not so necessary

With a sandpaper we smooth the inside of the soda caps, so that one enters the other.


We make a hole in one of the lids the size of the tip of the pencil


We place the tip of the pen in the hole and hold it with a side clip and silicone

we make 2 holes for the cables, and we place the soda cap on the thumbstick

securing it with the two screws.

Be careful not to break the wires.

We solder the wires to the switch and place it with silicone inside the soda screw cap

We cut the edge of the balloon to have a circle that we will place between the soda caps,

we seal the side air vents with teflon tape

to form a diaphragm that activates the switch with the blow.

when placing the rest of the pen when you blow you will hear the click of the switch


now you just need to connect it to your computer and use any emulation program compatible with the control you adapted
