Hello there my dear creative minds....

In today's project I am going to show you how I upcycled an old air compressor into a powerful, heavy duty jigsaw. You can also make a similar version my project depending upon the parts available at you.

Well, what are you waiting for? Let's make it happen.

Supplies

Materials needed :

Motor assembly out of a scrap compressor.

Scrap wood[suitable for your need]

Two 608, One 607 Bearings

8mm nut & bolt

Washers

13mm Bolt

8mm Linear Bearing

Screws

Spray can CAP

Wires

Switch SPST

12 Volt Adapter

Socket for adapter plugin

Aluminum L bar

Tools :

Hacksaw

Angle grinder

Drilling machine

Screwdrivers

Bench vice

Soldering iron

Wire stripper

Disassembling the Motor Assembly.

Screenshot (148).png
  • Remove the parts not needed for our built from the compressor motor assembly.

Making the Central Shaft.

Screenshot (73).png
Screenshot (74).png
Screenshot (149).png
  • Using drilling machine and angle grinder a 13mm long bolt is modified as shown in the picture.
  • Now this will helps in transmitting the required motion for our need.

Main Body

Screenshot (153).png
  • Main body for our jigsaw is made out of a piece of scrap wood.
  • Now the wood is cut into the desired shape so that it can house our motor assembly.
  • Linear bearing(8mm) is friction fitted onto the body.

Making the Motor Bracket.

Screenshot (80).png
Screenshot (81).png
Screenshot (84).png
  • With the help of a bracket made of aluminum, we will be fixing the motor onto the main body.
  • Here I have used a 1×1 inch 3mm aluminum L bar for making the bracket.
  • The bracket is made so as to match the profile of the motor assembly. Make the bracket according to the motor assembly available in your hand.

Making the Blade Roller Guide.

  • The guide is made using two 608 2rs and one 607 2rs bearing assembled in place with the help of aluminum L bar as shown in images.
  • You can choose the appropriate dimensions for the L bar, only thing to consider in mind is that the spacing between the horizontally placed bearings should be in accordance with the width of the blade to be used.
  • After assembling the blade roller guide, it is screwed onto the main body with the help of small wooden pieces.

Let's Make the Blade Clamp Mechanism...

Screenshot (103).png
  • Simple friction type clamp mechanism is used for fixing the blade in place.
  • For this I have used a hollow iron rod[40mm length,1mm thickness].
  • The rod is flattened and the required cuts / holes are also provided.
  • The rod is fixed onto the central shaft with the help of a pin.
  • 8mm nut and bolt is used along with two washers[specifically cut] to hold the blade firmly in place.

L Bar Footplate.

Screenshot (106).png
  • Aluminum L bar is used to make the footplate for our jigsaw.
  • It is placed onto the the body using screws as shown in the image.

Let's Make the Handle...

Screenshot (116).png
Screenshot (117).png
Screenshot (118).png
Screenshot (123).png
  • The handle is made out of wood and it is screwed onto the main body using screws.
  • It is made hollow so as to accommodate the wires, switch and socket[ Glue gun/ super glue is used to fix it firmly].
  • A small piece of metal plate is also screwed onto the main body so as to provide support for the motor assembly as shown in the last photo.

Making the Protective Case...

Screenshot (167).png
  • Spray can cap is used to make the protective case.
  • Required cuts and holes are provided on it for perfect assembly as shown in the image.
  • Our jigsaw is complete and is now ready to cut.

Hope you enjoyed my project.

Improvising....

I didn't had any drill bit large enough to drill the required hole for fixing the linear bearing. So I had to improvise a bit. Using an angle grinder ,a 12mm bolt is given a rough drill bit curvature.

Now this makeshift bit is used to widen the previously drilled out hole [using the largest bit available with me].

Once again thank you guys....
