Jiaogulan Macerated Oil

Most people never heard of jiaogulan herb even though it is very popular in China because of it's numerous health benefits. They call it the herb of immortality. The people in the Chinese region where jiaogulan tea is consumed daily live for a very long time, many people live up to 100 years.

Since I'm making cosmetics at home, I thought that jiaogulan macerated oil would be a perfect ingredient for my homemade cosmetics.

These are the benefits of jiaogulan for the skin:

  • it stimulated circulation
  • it makes the skin elastic and smooth
  • it helps reduce problematic skin conditions

Jiaogulan not only has many benefits for the skin but also for the entire health. Read more about jiaogulan and process of making it in my original post: jiaogulan macerated oil.

What you'll need for macerating jiaogulan herb:

  • olive oil (you can also use other oils such as almond or jojoba)
  • jiaogulan fresh or dried leafs (I used fresh)
  • clean empty jar where you'll make the macerate oil
  • clean jar where you'll put the finished macerated oil

If you'll be using a jar that was previously used or isn't entirely clean and sterilized you should sterilize it before putting macerating oil inside. Read how to sterilize a jar.

Now we can proceed on making the macerated oil.

Chop the Jiaogulan Leafs

Chop it as finely as possible so that more juice can extract into the oil.

Put the Leafs in the Jar and Cover Them With the Oil

Leafs should be compltely dry before you do this step because the water would ruin the macerated oil.

The leafs should be completely submerged in the oil.

Put the Macerated Oil on a Warm Place for at Least 3 Weeks

If it's sunny, put it outside or if the weather is not good, you can put it a warm room in your home.

The first week, the macerated oil should be shaked often, once every day or every other day. After the first week, you can shake it once a week.

After a Few Weeks, Filter the Oil in the Jar.

Cover the opening of the jar with the cheesecloth and pour out the oil into the jar. This jar should also be clean and sterilized if it was used before.

That's pretty much it!

This macerated oil should last for a year or less it the olive oil you used has a shorter expiration date.
