Jianzi, the Original Hacky Sack!

Here are instructions on how to build a traditional kicking toy. You can either kick it with friends or perform tricks. When kicking I recommend wearing shoes. Jianzi was created in China and is played all over the world today. For more information on the sport check out the Internation Shuttlcock Federation's website: https://www.shuttlecock-world.org/

What you will need: a washer the size of a half dollar, a rubber washer a little smaller than the metal one, several fuzzy feathers, a straw cut to the width of the metal washer, Duct tape, and scissors.

Step 1

Cut straw down to the size of the width of the washer. Next cut several slits on one side of the straw.

Step 2

Fold slits outwards making a fan shape at the end of the straw, measure to make sure they fit the metal washer.

Step 3

Attach Duct tape to the fan shaped end.

Step 4

Center washer over straw and attach it to the tape.

Step 5

Fold Duct tape so it becomes sticky on both sides. Attach the tape to the center of the rubber washer. Next attach rubber washer to the center of the metal washer.

Step 6

Chose several fuzzy feathers and insert them into the straw. I find four feathers to work well for tricks.

Step 7

Wrap a strip a tape around straw and feathers.

Step 8

Your Jianzi is complete all that's left to do is go out and play.
