Jewelry Holder

This is where I started, first coming up with a problem that I can solve and the first thing that came to my mind was a jewelry holder. The standard jewelry holder are usually a box and with those things it is extremely easy to get unorganized and lost some of your jewelry. So the idea I had was creating a jewelry holder that would be more of a stand than a box, so it can be easier to find your jewelry and keep it organized. So I would have three holders where your earrings and necklaces will go and then at the bottom of the holder there’s a tray that bracelets and other jewelry you have can go.

This entire jewelry holder is made out of 3/8 inches of play wood, besides the three holders and the extra layers on the tray was made out of about 1/4 inch of plywood. As you can i also painted my jewelry holder to make it pop, instead of it just not having any color at all.

Well my first step was coming up with an idea to a problem and then solving that problem. My idea was a jewelry holder. So I looked up different holders and took different pieces I like from those and created my own jewelry. After, I had an idea of what my jewelry was going to look like I decided to draw it on paper to see if I like my design so far. I like my design and decided to continue farther with my design.

After drawing up my idea, I started to move onto drawing my design on plywood. I would say this was probably the hardest part because I had to figure out rather how tall I wanted my design and what the width would be, and also the distance between the three holders. After drawing on the plywood I moved on to cutting out my design, this was also another challenge I ran into because sometimes the scroll saw wouldn’t cut straight, so I would have to redraw my design onto another piece of plywood and recut it out. Another problem I found was sometimes after I cut out my design it wasn’t the perfect size that I wanted it to be, and again I would have to redraw and recut. After cutting out my pieces I used a hot glue gun and wood glue to glue everything together.

This is the tray that I created for bracelets and other jewelry. This is a separate piece from the initial design, that I thought would be good to add. This piece was kinda tricky to design because I had to make sure that it was the right size to fit into the initial, and unfortunately the first time making the tray I made it to big, which caused me to draw it up again and recut it out. The second I made it was the right size. This was made out of 1/8 inch plywood and the walls around it so bracelets and other jewelry won’t fall out is made out of 1/4 inch of plywood.

Over this is what my final design looks with jewelry hold it, unfortunately I wasn’t able to give more jewelry to school to have a better display. Although I think that I can improve this design by making the three holders out of a different material, so they can be stronger. Also, I think I should’ve made my jewelry holder a bigger size so that it can hold more jewelry. The size right now is decent, but I think that it would be perfect if it was a little bit bigger. Finally, I had a lot of fun making this project.
