// 3D PUZZLE FURNITURE // Japanese Bench
In this tutorial we show you how to build your own modern Japanese bench.
You don`t need power tools for Japanese woodworking, every step of this tutorial is possible to master without using any power tools. With that being said we use the help of modern power tools.
Cutting and Planing the Wood
You need 40 mm wood of your own favor. In this tutorial we have beech as a scratch.
The destination is to have a wood plate with the following measures:
400 x 36 x 398 mm. That will be the bench leg.
You also need to cut 9 times with the measure
22 x 36 x 1300 mm
These will form the bench seat.
Gluing the Wood for the Bench Leg
You can skip this step if your wood is big enough.
We had to glue it from three pieces together to get the minimum size:
400 x 36 x 398 mm
Cutting the Bench Legs
Now cut the bench legs under 15 degrees in down and upper side (see the drawing above).
Milling the Ribs
Mill using milling machine the ribs for the bench. These have to be under 15 degrees 12 x 36 mm.
Left joiner is under 75 degrees 5 x 18 x 36 mm and right one will be mirroring it with 105 degrees.
The Joiners
Mark the joiners and use chisel to cut the corners that milling machine were not able to cut.
Cut the joiners to the bench legs. They should be milled under 15 degrees and the measures are 12 x 36 mm.
Finishing
Sand all the surfaces, soften the corners and oil everything. Then put all the ribs into their places.
