James Develin's Gym
This is our gym we created for James Develin, it is three floors high and has lots to do. We wanted to include natural lighting (shown by our large glass walls), environmental sustainability, and plenty of handicapped friendly options. We hope that this can be a place that people love to be at and visit.
First Floor
On the first floor there are many different activities that many people can participate in. Some things include, pool, weights, treadmills, and also a volleyball court outside. There is a front desk, refreshments, elevator for people who can't get up stairs. Also there are changing rooms and bathrooms. The first floor is the most handicapped accessible, for example there is a chair for people to get in and out of the pool, and there are weights where the weights are adjustable.
First Floor- Front Desk
Here is the front desk, this is on the first floor. There is a fridge with free water for people and a trash can so there is less to clean up. There is also lots of space for people to get around. There are also containers of Lysol/ sanitizing wipes around the gym, to keep yourselves and the equipment clean.
First Floor- Pool
This is the pool, it is on the first floor so there are no leaks and it is more accessible. There is also a chair that helps people get in and out of the pool. It also has jets to make it seem like you are swimming up stream so it makes you stronger (They don't always have to be on.)
First Floor- Weights
These are the weights they are accessible to all people and the weight can be adjusted.
First Floor- Treadmills
On the first floor there are many treadmills so many people can use them at a time. They are easy to get to and you won't be crowded and they will be spread apart.
First Floor- Changing Rooms
These changing rooms are very handicapped accessible. It is also very close to the pool so it is quick and easy to get into your swimsuit then right into the pool. There are also bathrooms in the changing room. The toilets in this room use less water when flushing to save water. this is one way we can help the environment, even if it's just a little bit. We also have automatic air dryers instead of paper towels to help reduce waste.
Elevator
Elevators are on each floor and are very handicapped accessible and it gets you places quicker. They are ran off of solar panels so that our electricity bill is lower. We believe that sustainable living starts small with projects like this. If everyone takes steps to reduce waste and emissions then our planet will thank us later.
Outside- Volleyball Court
On the outside there is a volleyball court. We thought that this would be a good way for people to spend time outside while being active. It is important for gyms to have variety so that all people can find an activity they enjoy to promote healthy living.
Outside- Parking Lot/ Path
The parking lot wraps around the building so there is plenty of parking for everyone. There is also a handicap parking spot closest to the door. One last thing is the path. It goes through the parking lot to the door and also to the volleyball court. This is so you don't have to walk through the parking lot.
Second Floor
This is the second floor. It has a separate activities room, ellipticals and treadmills, and a corner with a weight set up. Included in all floors are a water fountain and trash can. One thing that all floors have in common is a rubber type flooring. This helps reduce noise, so the weights and equipment aren't too loud. It also prevents damage to the floor in case weights are dropped.
Second Floor- Yoga Room
This room is a separate space for controlled activities such as yoga, pilates, and other activities. It has partial walls so that it's not cut off from the rest of the floor. This is also a space that can promote people to run their own fitness and well-being classes.
Second Floor- Ellipticals and Treadmills
Since the equipment on the first floor is meant to be handicapped friendly, we are encouraging people to use these if they are able so that the ones on the first floor can be available for those that need them. We feel that the more spaces available for people to use, the more room and privacy they can get.
Second Floor- Extras
There is also a weight set up on this floor with plenty of space to use it. Also included on every floor is a trash can and water fountain. Even though there is a fridge with free water on the first floor we wanted water to be available on every floor.
Third Floor
The third floor has a lot to offer, from the medicine balls, to weights, and even a mental health room. This room also has an elevator, with access to the roof. Once again, it has a trash can and water fountain available by the elevator, just like all the other floors. It also has things to work out your arms, like rings and pull up bars.
Third Floor- Mental Health Room
This room has plenty of seating to rest, mentally and physically. There are no bright colors, but there is a beautiful view. It has the best view, which is why we decided to place it here. It also offers snack and water if needed. Mental health is something that is often overlooked and we feel that all gyms should have a space to support user's well-being all around. Taking time to relax and meditate can help people relieve stress and feel happy.
Third Floor- Arm Workout Equipment
Like I said, the third floor has equipment that you can use to workout your arms. They are at different heights so people who are shorter or taller can use them with ease. They are also adjustable if these heights do not work for you.
Third Floor- Yoga Mats/ Medicine Balls
One last thing is in the corner. There are weights, yoga mats, and weighted balls. There are a few different weights, but you can get a heavier or lighter one upon request at the front desk.
Roof
This is the final floor, the roof. It has seating, yoga, and even a basketball court. It also features a solar panel. One last thing is there are plants placed around for aesthetic pleasure and for decoration. Another benefit of having plants is that they absorb carbon from the air and produce oxygen.
Roof- Solar Panel
This solar panel provides for most of the energy in our gym. There is only one because the lights do not need to be on in the building because of all of the natural lighting. The mass amount of windows majorly reduces the amount of energy we need, so this small panel is able to help. Our elevators, bathrooms, and most equipment is ran with this.
Roof- Yoga
Right here, there is a yoga set, with yoga balls and mats. We do have this on multiple floors, but it is so everyone that wants to gets a chance to use it. Also, who wouldn't want to do yoga on the roof?
Roof- Basketball Court
Now, the biggest part of the roof, the large court. There is a rack of balls seen off to the right side, and there are large walls encasing the court. You wouldn't want to miss a shot and have it go flying off the roof!
Roof- Seating Area
The last part of the roof is the seating area. You can sit here with your friends, or watch a basketball game going on the court. It has a great view of the surrounding area also! We want our gym to be a place where people love to be.
Thanks for Considering!
