James Develin's Gym

This is my entry inspired by James Develin's gym webinar.

This gym, whilst being Covid secure, allows everyone to work out, whether they have disabilities or not. Without feeling clinical, the gym can support people of all ages and disabilities. The gym provides opportunities for a variety of work outs ranging from hard core to gentle. The gym is also great for rehabilitation after injury. Physical health isn't the only thing that the gym can boost, but also mental.

The gym has been adapted to adhere to social distancing and sanitization rules. There is now more room for distancing and wheel chair space. The gym is a safe secure environment to work out in.

(I am 12 so have been granted parental permission.)

The Ground Floor

The basic layout includes:

  • Changing rooms/ toilets
  • An aerobics area with trampolines, mats, small weights, and exercise balls.
  • A large swimming pool
  • A training pool
  • A reception
  • Small fitness area
  • Ramps
  • Healthy drinks and snacks
  • Green/eco wall.

The Pool

Pools and water are great for rehabilitation and water therapy. Swimming also uses a range of muscles that you don't often use.

(Did you know that we have around 350 muscles in our body!)

There are two pools in the gym. The big main pool and the second smaller pool for training. The smaller pool can also be great if you need assistance when swimming, as it is shallower.

On poolside there is plenty of safety equipment, including life guard stands and floats. The pool side also includes towels and benches.

Having a pool can also be great for the local community.

The Nature Wall

This wall is covered in plants.

This is great for wellbeing !

As well as being as efficient as possible, we also want to be kind to the planet.

This passage leads to the second entrance of the gym which can be entered via the pass provided. With passes to enter into buildings a track and trace system can be used.

The clear passage as well as a entrance doubles as a path to avoid the pool side.

Lockers

lockers.PNG

Lockers are great for keeping the gym uncluttered and keeping possessions safe.

Valuables and clothes to change into can be stored here.

Reception

To access the reception you go up a wheelchair-friendly ramp and through automatic doors.

Inside the reception is a lift, cubby holes and a desk fit with chair and pc.

(Later on you will see the purpose of the lift)

The Toilets/changing

The toilets have sinks and showers to stay clean.

The cubicles are extra large, with plenty of handles so wheelchairs can find it easily and changing is easier.

Aerobics

Aerobics is great for general fitness and keeping your heart healthy.

However, it is important to stretch before and after any aerobic exercise.

In this area there are mini trampolines, weights and rings. Mats are provided for stretching.

All the equipment is stored neatly at the sides.

Refreshments

drinks.PNG

The refreshments area sells healthy drinks such as juices and smoothies. There is also a vending machine for water and energy drinks.

The tables are at different heights, so everybody can reach comfortably.

First Floor Machines

minor machines.PNG

These machines are all equally spaced out with sanitizing facilities.

These also have a view of the street and speakers in the corner.

There is a lift on the left to get to the second floor.

The Second Floor

The second floor contains machines, a climbing wall and a wellness area.

The roof is also covered in solar panels and sky lights optimizing light and energy.

The Climbing Wall

This is just a fun little extra on the back wall that people can enjoy whilst listening to the music from the speakers.

The Machines

There are several different machines in the gym with weights for training and building muscle.

Bellow are the machines ↓

In a lot of gyms there are many cardio machines, such as treadmills. They seem to be most popular so I've included a lot in my design to go with weights.

This will give the visitors the chance to have a full workout with cardio exercises and weight training.

The Wellbeing Roof

garden.PNG

I have designed the roof garden as a comfortable, relaxing area for visitors to use after their workout.

It is a calm area, with fish and plants, which can boost people's wellbeing.

A small putting green is also included.

This area is accessible via the lift in the reception.

Edits

I added a car park for the disabled and there is also a bike/wheel chair shed.

There is now also a person in the chair for size reference.

Stay Safe!

The design not only looks good on the inside but also on the outside attracting the community.

Overall, I think this design is really cool and I hope James enjoys it as much as I did making it.

Stay Safe.
