James Develin Gym Make It Real #2
Hello I am Aidan Miller I am 14 and everything in this instructable was designed by me in tinkercad. I have tried to keep dimensions as accurate as possible with the exception of the people placed for reference. For these the proportions are slightly weird as the heads are too big compared to the correctly sized height (~ 5 feet 10 inches). Take note that this entire project is to scale of 1mm = 1ft.
Supplies
The only materials are a computer with internet and a mouse.
First Drawings
I thought I would include some sketches of the building in its early stages. I outlined them in marker so you could see them better. As you can see In my original design there was three main doors but I later revised to only have one because it was taking up too much space.
Gym Layout
For the layout I have included an orthographic view from above as well as more from the front, back, left, and right in that order. As you can see the complex is split into two sections, the gym and yoga building, and the pool building. The buildings are connected by a breezeway and double doors to give wheelchairs easy access. As for parking there are currently 20 normal spots and 3 designated for wheelchairs. The square footage of this space is approximate 8000 square feet. This means under COVID protocol the gross capacity would be around 80 while normally it would be 160. This means more parking may be needed than in the picture. Just wanted to point that out so you do not get the wrong idea.
Reception Area
There is a reception area with a desk to get people checked in as well as another in the pool area in case there are separate memberships for the pool.
Bathrooms/changing Rooms
Of course bathrooms and changing rooms are important so I included them. I thought about putting a bathroom in the exercise building as well but since the restrooms are only a short walk away, I decided to save space with only one set of restrooms. The rooms include sinks, hand driers, bathing suit driers, toilets, changing rooms and urinals for the men's room.
Pool Room
The changing rooms/bathrooms connect directly to this main pool area. It includes a full length double-lane lap pool (45 foot by 16 foot) as well as a warm pool (20 feet by 16 feet). As you may notice there is a patriots logo sign on the wall in the screenshot. I created this by uploading the .jpeg above into this website and then uploading the .svg it gave me it into tinkercad.
Exercise Machines/equipment
There are three exercise machines that I designed. The treadmill, exercise bike, and bench-press. I already spaced the machines exactly 6ft apart (more for the bench-press) but more space may be needed to be extra safe.
Yoga/exercise Class Rooms
In the back of the building there are two classrooms for exercise training. Right now they are set up with 10 yoga mats social distanced 6 feet apart (not including instructor). Each room also has a exercise ball rack as well.
Disability Features
As mentioned in the contest description, it is important to make this place accessible for everyone. Some features I have included are, wheelchair ramps, pool ramps, disability parking and double doors. I have raised the pool ramp out of the water so you can see it better but it is normally underwater. For the wheelchair signs I used the same strategy from step 4.
Air Conditioning
Even though this is a short step it is important. I have placed one HVAC unit behind each building just for visual reference but more may be needed.
Miscellaneous Details
First there are sanitation tables placed at several places. These can be used to clean gym equipment and have hand sanitizer (clear), disinfectant (yellow), and wipes (blue). There are also potted plants placed around the facility. I would recommend planting something that both smells good and filters the air such as a peace Lilly. Outside in the parking lot, in the space between parking rows, there is bushes and grass I made using the scribble tool. There is also a tree. Another Thing I included was gutters. Since the roof is tilted down towards the back, I needed to only place 2 gutters at the lowest parts of the roof.
I hope you liked this instructable and thanks for reading all the way to the end. :)
