Jam Jar Piggy Bank

This piggy bank is meant to look like a real strawberry jam jar so that you can hide your money in plain site. It's perfect for when you need a little extra cash in a 'jam'!

Gather Your Materials

You will need:

  • jar with a lid
  • red tissue paper
  • cardboard
  • Mod Podge or another glue that will dry clear
  • fabric
  • rotary tool
  • scissors
  • paintbrush

Make Your 'Seeds'

Cut your cardboard into tiny pieces to resemble strawberry seeds.

Coat the inside of your jar with a small amount of glue and sprinkle on some of the seeds.

Dry the glue with a hairdryer or let it air dry.

Add a few tablespoons of glue into a container. Rip the red tissue paper into small pieces and add them to the glue. Mix the tissue and glue until it becomes a purple paste. The glue mixture will dry red, not purple.

Apply this mixture onto the inside of your jar, one thin layer at a time. Make sure the layers are dry between applications. You can use a hairdryer to speed up the drying time. I applied 6 layers.

After your final layer is dried, apply a thin layer of plain glue over it and cover with red tissue paper. This will cover up any spots that you might have missed, and will prevent the inside of the jar from being tacky from the glue.

Make Your Coin Slot

Using a rotary tool, cut out a slot in the lid of your jar big enough to fit coins and bills.

Glue a piece of fabric onto the lid. Use a knife to cut a line over the slot.

Done!
