Summer Berry Jam

Using only some berries and a bit of sugar you can make your own jam! I just used some blueberries, blackberries and raspberries that I had in my freezer to make my jam but really any kind of berry works. It's also a great way to use up the rest of the berries you have left in your garden at the end of summer!

Gather Your Ingredients and Materials

You will need:

Berries of your choice (Experiment!)

Sugar

A plastic bag

If you are making your jam from frozen berries you will want to defrost them and then put them through a strainer to get rid of any melted liquid. The first time I didn't put them through a strainer and ended up with runny jam which I then tried to thicken up with cornstarch, but it ended up just tasting yucky. DO NOT USE CORNSTARCH!

Squish the Berries and Add the Sugar

Pour all of your berries into a plastic bag, push all of the air out of it and seal it tight. Now you can go on to Mashing the berries. It is really important that the bag is sealed tight so that nothing leaks out. Squish the bag until there are no whole berries left. You my just want to run your hand over the bag to feel if there are any bumps.

Next you can add the sugar. To do this you can pour in about a tablespoon of sugar (more or less depending your taste) to the berries in the bag. To mix the sugar in, kneed the bag for about a minute.

Package and Enjoy!

Pour your jam into any sort of container and refrigerate or freeze it until you use it. Remember that you do not have any preservatives in your jam so it will only last for a few days. Now your jam is ready for use! Enjoy!
