Materials needed....

Pumpkin, not shown,

glue gun and sticks,

floral wire,

black paper and white paper,

scissors,

pencil,

small concave rest for the balance point,

bamboo skewer,

Note: These are all optional and other materials can be substituted.

Twist the Wire.

Twist the floral wire together in the middle. Add some hot glue to hold them in place.

The length of the wire should not extend past the opening of the top of the jack-o-lantern. Meaning, the light that shines out of the jack-o-lantern needs to shine on the bats to produce a shadow.

Cut Your Bats.

Cut out 4 bats, ghosts, faces, or any other scary image. Mine are made of paper and probably will be fine if they do not get wet. Other material could be used to make them more water proof.

Glue Your Bats.

Glue your 4 bats to the end of the 4 wires.

Create a Balance Point.

Bend a small piece of the wire around a glue stick and make a tail that will point down. Glue it to the twisted point in the wires.

Balance Your Bats.

This might be the most difficult. Bend the wires down past the balance point. give the wires a bend to equal out the weight. Once it is balanced add a ghost, bat, face, haunted house, or any other scary image, in the middle of the balance point.

Find a Concave Piece of Plastic.

Find a piece of plastic for the balance point tip to ride in. I used the top of a dish soap bottle. A pen or marker top might also work. Glue the concave piece to the top of your bamboo skewer.

Carve Your Pumpkin

Carve your pumpkin.

Push the skewer in place over the top of the jack-o-lantern open in.

Place a flashlight inside. Pick one that will shine its light directly out the top.

Place the bats and ghosts on the concave piece. You may have to re-balance the bats so that they sit correctly.

Ways to make the bats move...walk by, place a fan on them or just open the door. They move easily with a small breeze.
