Iron Man Pocket Buddy

I was given the assignment in my Mechanical Drawing class to create a pocket buddy. My classmates and I got together and decided to create the Avengers, inspired by Marvel. My character that I chose from the Avengers was Iron Man.

I used pictures of Iron Man from the Marvel movies to inspire my drawing in Auto CAD. I made the piece three layers so that the eyes and heart could be indented. I drew the detail for the heart on the middle piece so that it would stand out. When I finished I added a key chain element to the design so that I could put it on the key ring with my car keys.

I printed my design on the laser printer three pieces of wood thick. To make the eyes darker I made a rectangle behind the eyes on the middle piece. I set the speed of the laser for that rectangle so that it would only darken the wood and not cut all the way through. After I glued the three pieces together in order of their design and then sanded the piece. After sanding I sprayed the piece with a clear coat of paint to preserve the wood.
