Iron Man Box Logo With 2 Creative Switches

Iron Man Logo Box.jpeg

I am making a Box light with the Iron Man Logo for my brother since that is his favorite superhero. We are going to be using a coin to turn on the LEDs surrounding the Iron Man Logo and a lever to light up the Iron Man logo.

It can be used a night light to give a colorful background as you sleep.

Build Time: about 3 hours

Future Modifications: Will try to incorporate it in a way where I can use a USB cable and connect it to my PC so there is no dependence on batteries.

Supplies

Materials:

9V Battery

2 1.5V AA Battery

Small Carboard Box

Iron Man Logout cutout or Drawing

3 Led Lights

5 Alligator Clips

2 Double-Sided Pin wire

Soldering Kit

Battery Pack

White paper (Tracing paper if possible)

330 ohm resistor

Piece of narrow plastic to be used as a mini lever

Coin

Tools:

Blade

Tape

Pliers

Prep the Box

Use tape and attach one end on the switch and the other end through the side of the box protruding outside the box on the right side. Pushing the piece of plastic down from outside the box will hit the switch inside the box.

Attach Lights to the Iron Man Logo

Attach 2-3 led lights to the back of the Iron Man's Logo cutout and drawing and connect it to the battery pack. Test if the lights are working and then try to turn on and off the lights using the lever (which controls the switch). We are done with half of the project.

Using jumper cables, connect 3 LEDs with each other along with the 330 ohms resistor to the 9V battery pack. Make sure the lights are working.

Creating the 2nd Creative Switch

For the connection between two of the lights, instead of using a jumper cable, solder a double-sided pin wire to the led lights. One end of the wire soldered on to the led wire and the other one free. Do this for both of the LEDs.

The Coin Is the Key

Now the two pins from the two respective LEDs that are free, poke them from the inside the box to outside and have both pins be at the same level. Make sure the connections are all secure including the 9V battery connected.

Coin Support As a Switch

Using a plier, curl up the ends of the pins that are outside the box to be able to hold a coin. Place the coin with support of the box caught by the curls at the end of the pin (Imagine a ladder leaning again the wall, the coin is the ladder, the box is the wall and the curls at the end of the pins is the friction of the ground allowing the ladder to lean against the wall). You should now see your LED surrounding lights lit up when the coin is placed.

Hide the Wiring

Cut two semi-circles from paper or tracing paper and use tape to cover the left and right end of the open side of the box. You should now only have a circle spot open for placing the Iron Man Logo. Tape the Iron Man Logo in the center and test all your lights and custom switches and VOILAAA !! You are done.
