Iphone Car Stand Doc for IPhone or IPod Touch

A restraint system for an iPhone or iPod Touch for the car. Uses items that you have in home, only buy Velcro ($3), a green concept!

After finding no discreet support in the market specific for the iPhone, I decided to make one myself.

Step 1 - USB Cable...

We need three sleeves from the cables that come with the Apple USB cables (surely there are other objects that you can use).

Step 2 - Cutting

Cut one of the two tabs that make the function clamp

Step 6 - Paste to Plastic Support

Paste these parts on the plastic base that comes in the box, like you see in the photo, two at the bottom and one on the side like photo (the black parts of the photo is a step we will see later).

Step 8 - Use Specific Adhesive

To paste the pieces use adhesive specific for use on plastics. In my case I used "Ceys for difficult plastics", which comes with a priming bottle. Recommend first scratch the area to paste, and then paste. It's important respect the drying time that indicates the manufacturer.

Step 9 - Warning With Adhesive Vapors

Keep in mind that vapors typical of these adhesives leave white spots around the area glued (like I did). To solve the problem, use tape to do make a mask, and take care not to paste the tape with adhesive.

Step 10 - Test

Shows how to insert the iPhone. The plastic pieces glued on the base are elastic and allow the iPhone to fit, and then stay put.

Step 11 - Enougth Velcro

This is the kind of Velcro used to attach the support to the car. It's specifically for heavy items.

We will paste two, one for the iPhone in the vertical position and one for the horizontal position. Before placing them check their position and adapt it for your car.

This way, you only need to use one piece of Velcro on the car.

Step 12 - Micro and Speaker

The base covers the microphone and speaker.
We have to make holes in the exact position to uncover them. Then we need to smooth out the edges.

Step 13 - Power Buton

The space between the power button and the plastic is very small, and causes accidental stops. We have to cut the plastic.
We made two cuts with a knife for the start and the end of the cut.
Then cut the plastic carefully with a knife.

Step 14 - Look at Your IPhone or Ipod Touch in Your Car!

Also if you want, or if you need, you can make a hole through the bottom (In the doc connection zone) or at the top (in the area for headphone jack) to connect the iPhone through the car audio systems.

Now you can paste the base in the car, and then put in the iPhone or iPod Touch.
