One of the stars in the movie 'Castaway' is a volleyball called 'Wilson'. While leaving the island Wilson and Tom Hanks became separated - hence the 'Wilson' call from Tom.

But where was the island Tom and Wilson were marooned on for over 4 years? Later in the movie we learn the plane goes down 600 miles from the Cook Islands. By drawing a circle around these islands with this radius we can see the likely area. It covers over 1000 square miles of surface area.

This area can be more easily viewed using an 'Inverted Globe', unlike a normal globe, where the surface slopes away from the viewer, its slope towards the viewer's eye, making the surface easier to view.

The 'Inverted Globe' has other advantages:

1. It's half the size.

2. Doesn't roll around.

3. Can also be used as a fruit bowl.
