Instructables Robot Swim Shorts
This instructable came about because I wanted to enter the Instructables Robot contest. I then saw that the swimwear contest had not had many entries and thus the spark was ignited. I think they are a nice pair of swim shorts and could be appreciated by anyone, due to the likability of the robot. The method of printing I chose also adds to the summer beach vibe to the shorts. I know I am enjoying them and hope you will too.
Materials
Swim Shorts
Instructables Robot Stamp (Details in next step)
Fabric paint
Foam Brush
Red permanent marker
Plate
Newspaper (not pictured)
Making the Stamp
To make the stamp, I printed out various sizes of the instructables robot.
Once I decided on a size. I took the the print out and penciled it in.
I used an existing instructable by eclecticeddy, on how to make the stamp, it is linked below.
Once my stamp was ready, I did a test print on paper using stamping ink.
Stamping the Shorts
Lay the shorts out on your work surface, put pieces of newspaper in the shorts, to prevent the ink from bleeding. Also, if there is a mesh underwear lining, pull it outside the shorts so you can have an even stamping surface. Using the brush, apply fabric paint onto your stamp. I stamped the shorts, in an X pattern on each panel of the short. (Front Right, Front Left,Back Right, and Back Left)
Apply even pressure on the stamp when stamping and make sure you are stamping onto a smooth surface. When done, let them dry and repeat on the back of the shorts.
Adding Color Detail
Using a red permanent marker, color in the details in the eyes and "ears". Your newspaper should still be in the shorts to prevent the color from bleeding through to the other side. This should dry rather quickly.
Wear and Enjoy All Summer Long.....
Bonus: Instructables Robot Beach Ball!!
Stamp a deflated beach ball with an ink or paint that will stay on plastic. Detail with red permanent marker and enjoy!
