Instant Challenge 1.1 Document Camera

This instruction guide will guide you through the creation process of my document camera.

Supplies

1. A cardboard box with dimensions measuring atleast 15" L x 21" W x 16" H

2. A hot glue gun, and 2 hot glue sticks

Step 1: Find a Large Cardboard Piece

This piece will act as the base of your document scanner and should be at least 21" L x 15" W.

Step 2: Creating the Legs

qweew.jpg

Cut 4 flat cardboard pieces measuring 3" L x 1/4" W x 12" H.

Step 3: Create the Bases of the Legs

Cut 4 cardboard rectangles measuring 5 1/2" L x 3" W, each having a 3" L x 1/4" W slit in them to hold the legs.

Step 4: Assembling the Legs

Carefully glue each of the 4 small cardboard leg bases from step 3 onto the base. Make sure the slits inside the pieces are not obstructed by the base. Glue the pieces so that on the lengths, the two bases are 7 1/2" away from each side, and the widths so that each base is 5" away from each side. After the bases are in place, slide the legs into the slits, making sure only 1/4" of the legs pokes through the base (until they hit the floor). After putting the bases into place, hot glue them in the slits to ensure their strength.

Step 5: Create the Width Support Beam for the Phone Holder

Cut a cardboard piece with the same width as the base of the document scanner ( 15" W), and a length of 5 1/2". Once this is done, cut a 3" W x 2 1/2" L hole that is 7 1/2" away from each end of the piece. This will act as a hole for the phone camera to see through.

Step 6: Glue the Width Support Beam Onto the Legs

Take the width support beam created in step 6 and glue it to the top of the legs that are on the widths of the platform.

Step 7: Creating the Length Support Beam

Note: These measurements are for an iPhone 8 (plus case), adjust width and length accordingly depending on model of phone.
Cut 2 identical pieces of cardboard measuring 20" L x 5 1/2" W. On the first one, cut two 3" W x 1" L holes, one 5" away from one end, and one 8" away from another end. On the second piece, cut a 3" W x 5 1/2" L hole that perfectly fits over the two previous hole cut. After the two pieces are cut, lay them next to one another and bind them with tape. Finally, rest the piece with 1 large hole over the piece with 2 smaller holes.

Step 8: Attach the Length Support Beam

Place the length support beam over the width support beam in a way where the camera hole for the phone holding area can see through the width support beam. After it is correctly positioned, hot glue the edges of the length support beam to the legs attached to each length of the base.
