Installing a Computer Monitor Arm Through a Wooden Desktop
Having recently upgraded my computer monitor, I purchased a monitor arm as it had a very small desk foot print (10cm x 10 cm) and would free up some usable desk space.
The monitor arm had a clamp to attach it to the desk. But this would have been difficult to do with my desk due to the desks railing. While reading the instructions (some times this is useful) it said it could also be fitted through a cable well, which some desks have, as the bottom part of the clamp can be detached, the base of the arm passing through the cable hole and then the clamp reattached.
My desk doesn't have a cable hole. So it looked like the monitor arm would need to be returned to the store and to revert back to using beverage cans as a computer stand. Then I thought 'Hold about', 'What say I make a hole into the desk for the monitor base to pass through?'
Remove the Desk Clamp
The monitor stand had a clamp which could be removed so the arm could be placed through a cable well. But it could also be placed through a series of holes cut in a small line...
Drills Some Holes Into the Desk
A series of holes were drilled and then joined up the make a small slit in the desktop, this allowed the monitor arm base to slide through the desk.
Attach and Tighten the Clamp
Once the monitor base was in position, the clamp was reattached and tightened.
Desk Top Space
By fitting a computer monitor arm it has freed up useful desk space. It also helps when positioning the monitor screen.
