Being a huge MCU fan, I always wanted to create props related to the Marvel Universe.

And since Avengers infinity war, I had this dream of building the Infinity Gauntlet. Part of which involved creating the Infinity Stones.

My main requirements from the build were two things:

1.) Keep this project independent such that, the infinity Stones should work & look good on their own.

2.) Very easy to place/remove from the gauntlet (i.e. when I'll build it)

Keeping both the points above in mind, here's how I did it:

Supplies

All the supplies needed are basic & can be found in craft/stationary stores or online:

Collecting the Materials

As I have already listed everything needed in the Supplies section above, this step was necessary to make sure I highlight a few important points while selecting the materials:

  • Make sure to buy Vertical dip coin cell holder. There are 2 types of holders. The ones I have used, in these the cell is inserted from the side & not the bottom. Make sure to buy these type of holders only. As we need one side to place the led's & the other side to fit the magnet.
  • Keep a few extra glue sticks handy as the build took almost 2-3 glue sticks per infinity stone.
  • Test your glass color on a demo template first to make sure they match with your required colors. I have named the glass colors that I used, in Supplies section. But you might not get the same brand which I used & the names may differ. So remember to test them on a demo surface before using.

So now that you have all the supplies, let's get started:

Connecting LED's to Cell Holder

The first step is to connect the led's to the cell holder:

  1. For this, I just placed the led on one side of the cell holder & measured the length of the led legs.
  2. Then I bent the legs of the led to one side & using some hot glue stuck the led to the cell holder.
  3. Next, I bent the legs accordingly to create an L shape. It looks like the led is sitting on the cell holder :)
  4. Then I trimmed the extended part of the legs to keep it just till the cell holder's bottom surface.
  5. Finally using a soldering iron, I soldered the Anode & Cathode legs of the led to the Anode & Cathode of the holder respectively.

NOTE: Before soldering make sure to test that you have the right legs of the LED at the positive & negative points of the holder respectively.

Optional - Adding Magnets

This step is totally optional.

After adding magnets you can stick them to any metal surface like fridge or cupboard etc.

I'm planning on building the Infinity gauntlet, which is why I am using these magnets. These magnets will be used to attach the stones to the Gauntlet.

  • For attaching the magnets I used a bit hot glue first. but it did not stick that strong, so finally I had to use Instant Adhesive which worked perfectly.

You may of may not need to follow this step, according to your requirements.

Molding the Hot Glue Stone:

Now starts the fun part of creating the glue stones:

  1. I started with sticking masking tape on the surface of table. This makes it easy to remove after the glue dries.
  2. Then I created rolls of Cellophane Wrap & joined the edges using masking tape. The length of these should be approx. 120-130mm. This can vary as all stones should not look totally similar. I kept the height of the roll a lot more than needed and there was a bit wastage. I would recommend keeping the height approx. 50-60mm.
  3. Next I used glue gun to stick these plastic roll on to the masking tape, taped on the table.
  4. Now I filled this tube with glue until the desired height. I filled it till 25-30 mm height. Make sure to vary the height & diameter of the glue filling to create a bit of a variations in the stones.

I let it dry for approx. 1 hr. & than began the part of shaping the stones.

For shaping the glue stones:

  1. I started with removing the Cellophane wrap from the hardened glue
  2. Then I used the Soldering iron to melt the glue from one side corner to create the curves & smooth surface.
  3. Next, I smoothened the bottom side of the stone to form a proper stone shape with a flat bottom
  4. Then I used the soldering iron tip to create a hole at the bottom of the stone. This will house the led bulb. Make sure to test the fitting of the led bulb while you make this hole.
  5. Also at the end, I made sure to not keep the stone shapes perfectly smooth. I used the soldering iron to add some crisscross lines & edges to add some depth & pattern effects.
  6. In the end I joined the led set up from the 2nd step to these stone using hot glue.

NOTE: For quick drying of the glue while shaping it, rub a wet finger over it. Make sure to wet finger properly & do not let the melted glue touch any other surface of your hand.

I repeated this same process for all the 6 stones.

Coloring the Infinity Stones

It was just so much fun coloring these beautiful hot glue infinity stones:

  1. First I sorted which stone should be of which color according to their shapes.
  2. Then I used the cell holder to hold the stones & simply applied the glass color on them. First I did the top surface area.
  3. Once the top dried, I painted the bottom surface as well.
  4. The initial drying time was close to 30 minutes after which I applied a 2nd coat of color & let it dry overnight.

NOTE: According to your glass color brand, you might need 2-3 or more coats of color. You can check how it looks once the color dries for approx. 30 - 40 minutes. You can even test this by putting the coin cell & checking the brightness. If needed apply more coats of color.

Once the color dries, put the coin cells inside the holders for all of them.

The Result: Infinity Stones From Glue Gun

And there you have it.

The six Infinity stones made from glue gun & glue sticks. And these infinity stones glow with led's too. And all you need now, is the infinity Gauntlet to make the SNAP...!!

Oh wait, the best part is I will be able to use these infinity stones in my next project which will be, building the Infinity Gauntlet :)
