Indoraptor Cage - Jurassic World Toy
A few weeks back.. my nephew came to my place for the holiday and ask me to make him the indoraptor cage from Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom movie.. the cage from the auction scene..He even brought his indoraptor during the holiday for me to measure and size the cage..
He said he saw a youtube video of someone making it and he know i could make one for him too.. So it took me about a week to design and 3d print everything.. I added a rechargable USB 5v lipo battery for the floor LED lights and a on off switch..
and now that i am finished.. here we are.. i'm sharing it with everyone else..
Difficulty level:
- 3D printing - Easy
- Assembly - Easy
- Wiring - Easy
- Painting - Nop
So lets begin..
Supplies
- M3 screws - 12mm
- M3 brass inserts
- Neodyme magnets - 8x5mm
- Brass tubing - 4mm diameter x 550mm length
- 3.7V LiPo Battery Lithium Polymer 1000Mah - 803030
- USB charger module - TP4056
- LED white color strips - 2meter
- rocker switch - 14x8mm
- white acrylic(optional) - 3mmx450x160mm
and of course a 3D printer.. i'm currently using a BambuLab A1.. you can get them here using my affiliate links if you're interested.. they are currently having a sale until the 5th July 2024..
3D Printing
The whole project was 3d modelled using Tinkercad and 3d printed using Bambulab 3d printer..
since i was in a hurry to make the cage for my nephew.. i totally forgot to document and photograph all the steps.. so i am going to use tinkercad printscreen for the assembly
The 3d print files can be found on my www.makerworld.com page.. https://makerworld.com/en/models/516357
Cage Assembly - Base
- The 3 base will need 4x 90mm brass tube to hold them together.. and glue all 3 parts together
- you'll need to insert m3 brass insert on each corner of the base
- i've provided the channel for the LED strip, battery placement, rocker switch and the USB charger
- wiring is fairly simple.. connect the battery to the usb charger module
- make sure you have enough wire length to connect the lipo battery to the charger module
- connect the positive from usb charger to the rocker switch before connecting to the LED strip
- connect the negative directly to the LED strip
- i ordered a custom cut acrylic square for the floor of the cage.. you can 3d print it but i doesnt look as good and shiny as the acrylic.. 2mm is sufficient but it will bend in the middle if pushed hard.. 3mm is better but will slightly dim the LED strips..
- the size of the floor acrylic is 157.5mm x 135.5mm for the 2 front and back floor.. and 157.5mm x 143.5mm for the middle floor
Cage Assembly - Walls
- Each side wall will need a 90mm brass tube inserted on the top
- glue the 2 parts together
- you'll need to insert m3 brass insert on each side of the side walls
- the door lock uses the same brass tube.. 40mm is the best length for the door lock..
- the door hinge is connected using the 1.75mm filament.. cut to length of the hinge
- align the side walls to the base and add the front and back wall
- screw all 4 sides of the back wall in together
- do the same for the front
- add the 8x5mm neodyme magnets to the top corner of each cage.. you can 4 more for the middle walls of the cage.. but i think the 4 corners are already sufficient
Cage Assembly - Top Cage
- The top of the cage is connected together with a 125mm brass tubes and glued together..
- add the neodyme magnets that aligns with the cage walls..
- and now you can assemble the 2 parts together and you are done
Conclusion
The cage was fairly easy to model using Tinkercad.. the printing and assembly is easy as well.. the cage is 450mm in length and 250mm in height.. like i said.. i could fit my kitten in the cage.. it also fit both size of jurassic world indoraptor toy in them.. i hope you'll have fun 3d printing and assembling this indoraptor cage..
