Indestructible Kids Couch!

Create a totally Indestructible playroom couch. I've had futon metal bars bend, couches crack from kids playing and wrestling. This couch will finally do the job.

Supplies Needed

2x4" boards - regular studs are fine

4x8' plywood sheets

FoamTouch Upholstery Foam Cushions, 6″ H x 30″ W x 72″ L, High Density (x2)

Stretch Cushion Cover Sofa Cushion w/ Elastic Bottom (x2)
(Length 60-70 in,width 20-27.5in, thickness 2-9in)

Build Couch Frames

I've built 6'x2' wooden frames in an L shape to hold the bottom and back couch cushions.

The cushions will also rest as an L shape on the frame, the bottom of the L shape needs to be 6 inches longer to hold the bottom cushion plus the back cushion sitting behind it.

Add Paneling and Feet

- cutting at an angle on the bottom edge attach 4 feet to the front of the couch, the back edge will rest directly on the floor.

Cut the 4x8' panels to apply them to the frame as a support for the 2 cushions.

Test Foam Cushions, Wrap Them in the Sofa Covers

- make sure the cushions line up.

Note: the bottom panel will be 6 inches longer because the back cushion will reset behind the bottom cushion.

Wrap the cushions in the sofa covers.

Paint Black to Finish the Design

Paint the visible parts of the design black to have it look much better.

[Optional] for added safety for kids, I've added a foam strip to the top of the couch back and wrapped it in black cloth, the cloth is stapled down to the wood to hold it in place.

Finished!
