Inception Spinning Top

IMG_7106.JPG

Some years ago I came across this instructable because I wanted a spinning top like the one in the movie inception.
Back then I didn't know anything about polymer clay, and the instructable doesn't have any instructions.

So I didn't make it.

Now that I've been playing with polymer clay a lot, and experimenting with it, I found the way to make one. With this technique it´ll be very balanced and symmetrical, so it will spin longer.

It works amazing, follow my instructions and have hours of fun with this little toy you can take everywhere.

Gather Your Materials

Polymer clay

Two identical coins

Strong glue

Make the Bottom Part

Condition your clay by warming it up in your hands, make a ball and put it on top of one coin.

Shape it with your finger. Cover the edge of the coin too. Make sure you distribute the clay evenly and that it is as symmetrical as possible. To do so, take a look from the top, it'll be easy to see if the tip is tilted or if there's more clay in one side than the other.

For the top part, make the spindle longer. And again shape it as symmetrical as possible.

Bake

Bake both parts with coins following the manufacturer's instructions. Mine were in the oven for 25 min at 250 F.

Glue

Once they´re done baking, take them out of the oven and glue them.

Let the glue set and we're done.

Play with it, for how long will you make it spin? Go challenge your friends!
