Improve Password Security With Canned Beans

Today we will be improving password security with the use of a set of metal punches and a new/old can of beans. If you store your passwords on a piece of paper, like many including myself in the past did, you are open to the possibility of paper smudges, water, or even fire destroying your passwords. With punched metal none of these are an issue.

You will need

• Metal punches A-Z 0-9 + Special chars
• Can of beans
• Multi tool with pliers/scissors
• Object to hit the punch with

First you need to rip off the label, empty and clean the can, and cut the top and bottom off cleanly

Use pliers to make an initial entry to the can and cut all the way down

You will want to flatten the entire can out, making sure to try not to crease it. Then cut off a long enough section and attempt to get only the flat part. Also make sure to cut off the lip of the can if you dont want it

I found punching on the dull side of the can increase readability. When punching make sure the surface you have will not retain the punch marks (security risk). To make a secure password aim for 14-16 characters with upper/lower/letter/symbols. Do not use re-use any password twice. You can also try punching directly on the top of the can which I found to work very well also. Aluminum beverage cans are flimsy, but could work. For uppercase/lowercase I put a little mark on those that I want to vary the case on (this saves you from having to buy a whole new case of punches)

It may be helpful to make a small holder as the metal is better than paper but can still be bent or broken.
