Implode a Can

In this project, you will be able to implode a can using air pressure. You can use it as a great party trick, to learn about air pressure or just do it cause it's awesome!

Let's get to it...

What You Will Need:

To complete this project you will need:

  • Water
  • Soda can (any can will do)
  • Tongs
  • Source of heat

Pourin' the H2o

For step 2, all you need to do is pour 3 tablespoons of water into the soda can. (Don't worry about the amount of water being perfect, just a small amount of water)

For step 3 just place the soda can onto a source of heat. (stove top, hot plate)

If using a stove plate or hot plate set it to either medium or high heat.

It's Nearly Time

When you start seeing steam coming up from the soda can, then you know it's ready.

If you want to be really scientific you can say "water vapor escaping from the soda can".

Show Time!

With the tongs get the soda can. Once you have the can gripped with the tongs, flip the can upside down into a bowl of cold water.

Boom!

Hope you have enjoyed this project, if you want to turn it into a science experiment then you could check, does the amount of water in the can affect how the can gets crushed.
