Ikea LACK Corner Table

Hi there!

I'm currently redesigning a small room which has 3 seats in it. The room is very small being only 6 square meters. 2 of the cars are standing next go each other at a 45° angle. Since the space between the two is too small to fit a full size table i decided to modify a LACK table from IKEA to fit the space.

Let's get to it!

Laying Out the Design

Time to some measurements!

As the table will be sitting against the wall we need to make sure it doesn't bump up to the floor plinth. The plinth sticks out just about 3 centimeters. Making the edge hang over 4 centimetres will ensure it fits perfectly.

The table legs are 5cm x 5cm. Staying 10cm from opposite corners will leave with me with just about a 4 cm gap.

NOTE: Make sure you measure the distance parallel to the edge that will meet the wall.

Preparations for Cutting

Since we're working with very cheap veneer it's important we use a straightedge and very light cuts.

I simply stuck mine down to the side of the table that i was cutting off with some duct tape.

Scoring and Cutting

One rule.

Use 64743636 light strokes instead of 3 heavy ones.

If you slip, drift off. You will regret it.

Once you've made it through the top side, flip around the table and do the same on the bottom side.

Cutting the Sides

The side's are made of a thicker wood, which will give you a hard time cutting with a utility knife.

Use a sharp small teethed saw to slowly cut through both sides.

Smoothing the Edges

You will have some kind of blowout on the veneer. Use a scratchpad to smooth these out before colouring them with a black marker.

Colouring the Edges.

Use a simple black marker to run over the edges of the veneer. This will ensure no bare wood is showing and leave you with an overall better looking product.

In Place!

Congratulations!

You now own an amazing looking side table which has many possibilities.

It works absolutely perfect for my purpose! Better than I expected!

Thank you for reading and let me know if you're planning on making this!
