Ice-Cream Candle

In this project I made a fun little candle that looks like a soft serve ice-cream cone!

Supplies

To make this project you will need:

  • White Candles (Or whatever color you want your ice-cream to be)
  • Pot & Water
  • Stove
  • Some sort of container that can withstand heat to melt the wax in
  • A mold in the shape of ice-cream
  • Non stick spray
  • Some sort of rope for the wick
  • Needle
  • Tongs
  • Lighter
  • Ice-cream cone or a stand for candles

Preparing the Candle Components

Ok, first things first begin boiling your water since that'll take a little while.

Next you can begin to prepare your wax and wick.

For my candle wax I used a few white tea candles by removing the wicks and metal from them. And for the wick I just used a bit of random string I found, although it ended up not working very good so I suggest using something else. To make the wick I just measured about how much I would need by looking at the mold.

Next you'll want your container to melt the wax in. For mine I simply cut a pie tin to shape and folded it around a bit until I got a good size that could fit over the pot and hold the wax.

Turn Up the HEAT!

Once your water is boiling hot you can begin to melt the wax. The best way to melt wax is to use the double boiler method, (which is what I used) this is where you boil water and then place a container above it so the steam from the water will heat up the container above. I shaped my container so it could easily hang above the water by holding onto the edges of the pot. Although be careful! Steam can be very hot, that's why I used tongs to place the container over the pot.

Pouring the Wax

Once your wax is fully melted you can pour it into your mold. Make sure you use tongs to remove the wax so you don't burn yourself. For my mold I used the top of this ice-cream maker that actually works really well and is a lot of fun to use! Make sure that before you pour in the wax you coat the mold with a non stick cooking spray or something else similar. Otherwise your ice-cream will be stuck! In the image you can see I placed the wick in the wax but that didn't work very well so don't do that, I'll explain how to put the wick in later. But once you have the mold ready you can pour in the wax, then just wait for it to cool and onto the next step!

Adding the Wick

For the final step before completion you'll need to add the wick. To do this I threaded my piece of string through a needle and then stuck the needle through the candle. Once this is done, your candle is basically done!

Congrats! You made your very own ice-cream candle! Lastly I put mine on a cone, or you could also put it on a dish as you can see in the picture. Then you can just use a lighter and enjoy your candle!
