IPhoneX Stand_Exploring Generative Design With Fusion 360

In this project, I created iPhone stand using a Generative Design Function in Fusion 360.

1st Exploration of Generative Design

In the first exploration, I could not get my desired design through Generative Design because I forgot to put the bottom side of the model as structural constraints.

In the generative design suggestions, the additional materials are on the bottom side and the design is not easy to stand by itself. Therefore, I explore with next design and setting.

2nd Exploration of Generative Design

In the second design, I separate the back lean and bottom to allow the computer to generate interesting designs.

The weight of the iPhone is 0.147 Kg. Therefore, I put 0.147 N of structural load on the back lean and bottom side.

This time, Structural constraints are applied to the surface that put iPhone and leans the iPhone.

As a result, I got some unique designs of lean from Generative Design.

It takes 6 hours to complete generating the suggestion of designs.

3D Print One of the Designs

I printed one of the designs from the suggestion.

I regret to slice the 3D model before 3D print. It takes 9 hours to get print.

The supports are hard to remove, and I broke the lean side.

I put Gorilla glue to fix the 3D print stuff.

Using Stand With IPhone X

The stands fit very well to iPhone X and it supports iPhone X very well.

Other Exploration

Next, on the lean side, I put 5N structural load and start the process of generative design.

This time, I sliced the design and it shows around five hours to print.
