IKEA Commode Hack (Under $25)

IMG_7415.JPG

Upon learning about how expensive portable commodes are, I wanted to build an alternative that would be easily affordable and parts easily accessible. This product is under $25 and requires no power tools. Other than its sleek design, it is also extremely simple to make and takes less than 45 minutes to fully build.

It's also very comfortable and easy to sit in, as well as weighs less than 10 pounds total.

Cutting Seat Hole

Using a Handsaw or Jigsaw, cut the center portion of the seat. This cutting can be fit per personal need. Make sure to leave at least a 2" perimeter to maintain structural integrity of seat design. Once final cut is made use sandpaper to sand down possible sharp edges (not always needed depending on handsaw tool used).

Adding Wheels

Adding the wheels can be a bit tricky. The diameter of the steel pipe of the Adde and the diameter of the wheels are different. Using tape, add thickness to the caster wheels to make them just fit into the Adde chair legs. Finding thick tape can be very helpful.

Adding Support Handle

Using zip ties and a 2' pipe, add to chair between back of seat and bottom of seat rest. This part of the process can be deferred to customer liking.
