I Will Make a Cheese Table
I am making a Cheese Table using Dominos from Dollar store! you can make yours from anything so long as it is FOOD SAFE" means you wont get sick from using with CHEESE! xo!
A Tiny Table to Serve and a Knife Go Ahead "Cut Your Cheese"
As soon as I saw this challenge, I knew what I wanted to make. Knowing that my Supplies
were Limited . We just sold our home, and have been staying at a Air BnB for 2 months. So I do not have access to a Kitchen. I do not have most things I am accustomed to having.
I went to the Dollar Tree, seeking a Cutting board. They only had the hard plastic type.In crafts section I found a Wood Craft plaque. Then in toy area I noticed wood dominos, these would have to do,
Tools + Process Here We Go.
Having basic tools and scrap paper, I began to make templates of the Dominos, I knew these will have to do. I needed legs for my table. I did not get the dowels I saw at dollar tree,I wanted a craftsman look!
I never made wood projects with a craft razor-hemming ruler and sticky glue ,emery board(my sand paper) a vintage pencil file -paper ripper. I just made do.
It is not easy cutting these very thin Dominos and the front wasnt even wood it was paper-
this meant I also needed to peel the paper off.
HINT: you sure can leave the Domino paper design on-and then purchase some dice- make your Table- Cheese Board in the style you want.
Leg Style- Will This Work- They Will Not Be Crooked Stay Tidy!
When you start with squared objects+supplies , It should be easier to make it stand straight .
Like even when I sew often I pick a pattern with a line running across or even Buffalo Cheque.
If you have a good solid line to work from, your measurements and set up will go a lot smoother. I felt very free to mess up the Dominos, there was so many in one Package, and I purchased 2 packs.(JUST IN CASE)
I found my emery board worked great make everything smooth and even. Keep checking your 2 Legs or 4 what ever you choose. test for even in size and- how straight they stand-
Mine stood on their own, because I built up the thickness at the top, so there would be more
Surface to Glue,I also staggered the wood. What I mean here is I Sandwiched the 2 skinny vertical- parts - this gave the weight a center of gravity ( I THINK THAT IS what I did!)
HINT: when I am making things, I end up with a lot of usable cut offs the best left over cut up pieces ,I save in a snack size plastic zip lock,I then have a shoe box Labeled Scraps-extra pieces WOOD- then one for PAPER BUT REMEMBER ! don't save everything.
Applying Food Safe Paint on Surfaces -
Now that Legs are done-I must try them out! but only as a DRY RUN- what a dry run means is when you have all parts ready to assemble, you place them in their proper spot and admire
how well they have turned out.
Then its time to decorate. For food use, you must use only FOOD SAFE DYE and maybe some bees wax to protect the surfaces. I had neither ,so only for the purpose of this contest I used my portable water color paints. I chose a Lovey green gold, dapping and wipeing it off until I was satisfied.
HINT: when doing projects I use paper plates- and scrap paper to catch paint-paper- glue. as I work I keep a tidy area and organize using plates even cups. why not try a muffin tin! The cleaner your area the better your project will be- you will feel good knowing where all those parts are, tools are!
