Hydrophobic Coating - Step by Step Instructions

DIY Hydrophobic Coating like Ultra Ever Dry or Never Wet

Hydrophobic nano coatings are achievement of nanotechnology and are available on the market for the last few years. ULTRA EVER DRY and NEVERWET are the most popular brands you may recognise. And they are doing pretty nice job when comes to surface modification for liquid repelling purpose. What you seeing now, is a coating having very same properties, but is made with nothing else, but two known for years easy to find at home, inexpensive products – CLEAR LACQUER SPRAY and MULTI SURFACE POLISH - COST €5The Clear Lacquer goes on first sealing the surface, but also it will act as a binder to bind the top coat layer to the surface – Multi Surface Polish which acts as a hydrophobic agent and is sprayed when clear coat is still wet. This hydrophobic coating needs about an hour to dry.The reason this works because of the Multi Surface Polish includes an organic hydrophobic compound the Aliphatic Hydrocarbons. This is an easy inexpensive way to make a hydrophobic coating like “Ultra Ever Dry” or “NeverWet” from products that have been available for decades. It works great!1. BASE COAT – CLEAR LACQUER AEROSOL – AS A BINDERClear Lacquer Spray - perfect binder for our project because of good adherence to almost any surface, thin layer, transparency, and fast drying.2. TOP COAT - MULTI SURFACE POLISH – HYDROPHOBIC AGENTSpray Can Ingredients:Contains 5-15% Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, less than 5% Non Ionic Surfactants,Also contains Perfume, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Salicylate, Preservative Methylisothiazolinone & MethylchloroisothiazolinoneI chose the multi surface polish spray because it includes an organic hydrophobic compound, such as an aliphatic compound or with an alkyl aromatic compound. The non-ionic synthetic organic detergents generally are the condensation products of an organic aliphatic or alkyl aromatic hydrophobic compound.
