Huygens Probe Paper Model

FJYM8F7KUQYI8XU.jpeg

Hello everyone!

I am twelve years old and this is my first instructable.

In this instructable, I am going to show you all how to make a paper model of the Huygens probe which landed on Titan (a moon of Saturn).

The Huygens probe was the first man-made object to land this far.

If you want more information, ,please visit- https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/missions/cassini/mission/spacecraft/huygens-probe/

The design is completely original.

You can use this link to help you with the assembly.

You will need to download the PDF and print it out.

Cut Out the 1st and 2nd Part Sheets

IMG-0155.jpg

Cut out the parts from the first and second sheets.

Paste the circle part (probe top) of the first sheet on some thin cardboard like shown.

If you have thin paper like me, you can first paste the probe on some old paper and then paste on cardboard.

Create the Body

IMG-0161.jpg

Join all the large rectangles together as shown in the pictures above.

Then fold down all the triangles on the probe top to and paste the large strip you have just made onto it to make the probe body. You can also strenghten it with some masking tape.

Remember to cut off any excess.

Create the Parachute Container

IMG-0166.jpg

Cut out all the pieces from the third parts sheet.

Next, paste the two strips on the same type of cardboard we used for the probe top.

Next fold down the tabs and fold the strip down as shown in the picture.

Apply glue to the tabs and fold the strip around to turn it into a sort of box. If required, attach the second strip as well.

You can strengthen it with some tape if you are not satisfied with it's strength.

Paste the fourth parts sheet on an old paper and cut out the two strips on the along with tthe circle that accompanies it.

First, take the circle and fold the tabs down. Then, apply glue to them and roll the thicker strip around it. Make sure to cut off any excess otherwise it will get very messy.

Now, take the thinner strip and roll it up as well. However, before that refer to large golden circle on the probee top. The rolled up strip must be of exactly that size.

Cut out the grey and black circles paste them on top of each other.

If you do not want to cut out the grey circle, then you can just paste the black one on the large grey circle on the probe top.

Next, cut out the golden rectangles to paste pn the probe top. If you do not want to do this step, that is fine as I have already included them on the probe top.

Also, cut out the hexagon shape and the circle. Paste the circle on a piece of cardboard and then paste it one the hexagon shape.

The Next Circular Instrument.

Paste the next parts sheet on another piece of paper.

Cut out the strip and circle on the blue part from the parts sheet.

Make this one in exactluy the same way as you made the taller pipe with the cover.

cut out all the triangles and fold them as shown. Cut the thick end of the 2 triangles 1.5 cm from the bottom as shown. Make two more of these.

The Heat Shield

Cut out the circles on the last 2 pages and join them together to ake 1 large circle.

Draw between the linkes like I have in the picture.

Then, paste it on some cardboard and fold it into a triangle and cut off the excess.

Remember, the diameter of the heat shield should be the same as the diameter of the body.

In this step you are going to join all the pieces together.

First attach the grey and black circles in their place (the large grey circle) on the probe top.

Then join the three golden rectangles to their places on the probe top.

Attach the pipes in their places.

Attach the one without a cover on the large golden circle, the one with a white cover on the white circle and the one with a golden cover on the small grey circle.

Attach the Parachute container in it's place.

Take the triangle sort of things we have made and attach them below the golden rectangles as shown.

Then, take the hexagon with the circle and attach it below the tallest pipe.

Take the last piece remaining and give it a sort of curved contour that matches the circle. Then, attach it below the large grey and black circles.

Then attach the heat shield to the bottom.

You can use scotch tape for these steps.

That's it.
