How to Use a Kreg Pocket Hole Jig

I'm building a thickness sander and I didn't want to have screws showing on the control panel.

I decided to use a Kreg Jig to make pocket holes.

The jig consists of a pointed drill bit, a scale, and drill stand that allows you to drill at the proper angle.

You set the stop collar on the bit so that the bit will penetrate the proper distance into the wood.  In this photo, you would be drilling into 3/4" stock.

The second photo shows how to drill -- it's easy -- just pull the trigger on the drill.

The third photo shows one way you can screw wood together with pocket hole screws.  The screws have a square drive and a built in washer -- so it effectively a clamp when it tightens. 

The 4th photo shows how you can use this jig to hide the screw on a table leg.

Mount the stock that you want to connect together in the jig and drill the holes.  

Since you are drilling in the back of the wood, you will never see the screw from the front.

It takes the same amount of time to drill the holes, but it makes the project go together really fast.  You don't have to use a ton of clamps.  You can get by with just two.
