How to Survive 2012
I know that there are a lot of people out there who think that 2012 is not the end of life as we know it. For those of you who would like to be prepared if things go bad, then you've come to the right place. I'll give you a detailed guide on how to survive 2012. Let’s get started.
I will cover a few main points on surviving.
1) Essentials: These are what you 100% will need to survive.
2) Helpful: These are things that you really want to survive, you don't absolutely need them, but they'll help a lot.
3) Extra: Again, not required, but will make life easier.
4) Luxury: These things you don't need, but if you are going to be the continuation of the human race, you don't want to be set back thousands of year’s technology wise, if you plan to create a better world.

A Few Senarios
People have different ideas about what will happen, and based on damage rates, here's your chances( in my opinion) of survival
1) Meteor Strike: Depending on size and location, I'd say that you have a decent chance if a small one( 100ft-half mile) hits within 2k miles of your location, anything bigger, and the world might go into nuclear winter
2) Nuclear Holocaust: Probably a zero survival rate with this one, the US has tens of thousands of nukes, so all of America will most likely be destroyed, and the fallout will make life on the surface impossible for hundreds of thousands of years, except for roaches
3) Super Volcano: Most likely to be yellow stone, so any one who is west of the Mississippi river, sorry your out a luck, the CO2 and ash will kill you pretty quick. Virginia and east will get a thick blanket, but won't be filled with it or poison gas, your best bet is to head south of the border if your out west, that means you too Canada, because Yellowstone is closer to you than Mexico.
4) Polar shift: If the poles shift, then there will be earthquakes beyond comprehension, tidal waves hundreds of feet high. Even if you survive all that, you may end up where Antarctica currently is, so I’d say you should aim for cities high up from sea level (Chicago is a mile high) or if you have a few thousand bucks to throw out, then head on over to Tibet, and wait it out on Mt. Everest, no matter where you end up, can't get much colder than it already is up on the top.
5) Gamma Rays: 0% survival rate, the earth will turn into one big oven
On to the ESSENTIALS!

On to the ESSENTIALS!
Essentials
What you must have to survive 2012 is
1) Water: Water is the basic building blocks of life. Without it, you have about 3 days to live, that's if you not doing any strenuous labor, as you would be in a survival scenario, so about 2 days and you'd be done.
You’d need a lot of water after 2012. Utilities would shut down, so you'd be on your own. You have a few options, but stock piling would be best. What you could do is get about 25-100 gallons of water from stores. Or, you could get a water storage tank. The benefits of both are excessive water storage. But, if you go with the tank, you lose your mobility, so unless you are able to get it into a U-Haul, I’d go with water jugs, or the gallon bottles. But remember you need a lot.
2) Food: Food is going to be scarce. Perishable food is going to be gone in a week, so you have to stock up on canned goods, dehydrated foods, and heavy calorie foods. Don't forget camping stoves and pots/pans and utensils so you can cook it, Don't forget the Can Opener!! Also, you should get lots of seeds, like carrots, and potatoes, because if you want to survive, you're going to have to start a farm. Again, food is going to be hard to come by after the initial impact of 2012 (I don't mean a comet or asteroid, I just mean whatever happens) so you have to be ready. I’d say a year’s supply should be sufficient.
3) Shelter: You're going to need shelter to survive. Staying at home probably isn't you're best choice, because looters will come and steal you supplies. So if you can safe guard your house, go ahead. But I would suggest you get out of the city, and go to an area with good farm land. But there is one big problem; Yellow Stone National Park is a super volcano. I’m pretty sure that it will erupt in 2012. I’m sorry to say that any one east of 90 degree parallel, or for those of you who are map illiterate, west of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana( sorry for the spelling) have a pretty low chance of survival, even here on the east coast life will be hard. So if you’re over there, try to head east or south before 2012 if you can.
Anyway, shelter can be anything from an RV, to a school. It all depends on if you are trying to stay alive, or continue living. If you on your own or with a few others, then a house, or an RV are good, just make sure it is defendable from looters. It you want to start a new colony, and then I’d say a farm or a school or hospital will be for you. Also, for those of you who are smart, hospitals always have backup generators. They’ll soon run out of diesel though, so try to get some. But before you turn it on, turn off the switches in the fuse box, because you don't want to attract too much attention to yourself.
Another thing, you can make bunkers. I myself am planning on making one for family and friends. A bunker is a hole in the ground with a roof, armor, and vents. You can be creative as you want. Just look it up elsewhere to see how it's done, because you want to get it right.
4) First aid: This is key because after the fact, hospitals are going to be ransacked for their medicine, and if you think cvs will have a new shipment of aspirin, forget it. Stock up on all you can. Buy kits offline, or make your own. You kit should have bandages, Neosporin, splints, sewing materials, infection protection medicine, sanitization supplies. Again you should do some research. also, have a large surplus, cause you want to have enough till humanity can make more, which may take years, so don't be stingy, you need medical supplies.
4) Clothes: You need clothes. You don't want to be cold in the winter. Again, the super volcano could cause a nuclear winter, where all plants die, and last for years, so get lots of warm clothes. Also get some extras, for others in case you decide to make a colony. You’re also going to need duffle bags and garbage bags, to transport you supplies, because you really should move to a good farming area.
5) Living essentials: If you have glasses, or an inhaler, bring them with you. if you have something that assist you every day like that, or something else you feel you can't live without( sell phones don't count, sorry. all cell signals will be down, but they make great bartering chips)
6) Material goods: These are purely for bargaining. Unless they mean something to you. Material goods will become a common currency everywhere. It also won't hurt to have some paper money as well, since that could keep value for a few weeks, but will quickly become worthless.
7) Communication: You need to communicate with the outside world. CB radio is your best bet. Lots of people have it, the military monitors it, and it is accessible. I’d suggest a 60 dollar mobile radio, and mobile antenna, also you should get a power supply, and batteries to run it (car batteries, or dry cells, they last longer) communication will be vital to survival, cause you can unite with others and survive together.
8) Survival material: Things like whistles, lights, matches or lighters, lanterns, those things that are found in survival kits. Get what you feel will assist you in surviving, and contacting someone, i.e., CDs, they work as light reflectors.
That’s all I can think of for essentials, next, necessities.

Neccesity
These things will make life easier
1) Portable solar power: Solar power is a great way to get electricity. You can use it to charge a GPS to guide you if you to farm land, or a safer place to live.
2) GPS/Maps: To help you find your way. Don’t forget a compass.
3) Protection: This really should be on the essentials list, but I’m too lazy to move it. You need weapons to protect yourself, and to hunt. A pistol will do, but if you’re like me, you’re going to need a small armory. I personally own a low cal. rifle, pistol, and sword, incase I run out of ammo. I plan on getting a 9mm Uzi carbine, .308 hunting rifle, assault rifle, and Dragonov sniper rifle. If you don't have the money to buy lots of guns, get a few that work, then get some non-working, or airsoft guns. But get real looking airsoft guns, like AK’s or m14's. Just break off the orange tips and you've got a ghost arsenal. Sometimes, all it takes it the image of mass firepower, to stop attacks.
4) Comfort material: Things like air mattress, sleeping bags, and mess kits with plate, bowl cup, knife, and fork. Cooking utensils, pots, pans, hygiene, soap, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, tooth brush, paste, deodorant, shampoo, these things will make surviving easier. Also through in some kitchen knives, for protection and cooking.
5) Bio protection: If the mega volcano blows, dust will fill the air, so you will need at minimum a dust mask, my paranoid self is getting a military spec gas mask for my family and I. you can also get bio suits, there not too expensive, about 200$, but can come in handy if a pandemic occurs, which is a big possibility, so I would definitely get a gas mask at least.
6)Raft: There is a possibility that there will be a flood, and if it's as bad as they say it is, then you should not even try moving, make a bunker that is 30ft down, and solid concrete with rebar and air/ water supply. But, it is minimal, and then a raft or boat will be fine. I have a boat, and plan on getting a zodiac. But this one is optional, but again could be necessary.
7)Water Filtration: If you run out of water ,you’re going to need a filtration system, it's a good idea, cause you’re going to run out of water eventually, and it will be nice to know that it is clean. But you should always boil filtered water before you drink it so you don't get parasites.
8) Knowledge: Bring books, painting, and culture, anything that has human culture in it. You want to preserve the nature of man, so bring so classic literature, and print out some articles on the world wars and old times too, so you can have something to tell the future generations of man about our past.

Luxery
These will be nice to have
1) A car: This will be nice to have, to get you around. if your car runs on gas, stock up, cause it's going to go fast. If your car is diesel, you good. Diesel cars make up 5 percent of all the cars in America, and that includes semi’s. All you need is a siphon system, to pump the diesel out of the tanks, in case the power at the pumps will be out.
2) Electronics: This is only if you remembered your handy dandy solar system. This will give you entertainment, and if you have a sat phone, communication.
3) Entertainment: Things like sports equipment, magazines, books, games, things to keep you mind off the fact that all life as you know it has come to an end.
that is all for luxury, short i know, if you can come up with anything else, leave a comment.
