How to Spoil Your Hermit Crabs: Food Edition II

This is a picture of a hermit crab dragging an omelette into his cave so he doesn't have to share with others. Here are two more ways to feed your hermit crabs appetizing and healthy foods!

One Hulk Omelette makes about 4 meals for my large hermie heard.

Ingredients:

• 1 egg
• animal protein (I used dried mealworm skins)
• fruit or veggies (I used baby greens)
• a bit of nuts or grains (I used walnut crumbs

Tools:

• frying pan (no need to grease it)
• spatula

Use your hands to crush the entire egg. Revel in your Hulk moment and then go wash your hands. Use the spatula to combine the ingredients and cook over medium heat, stirring/turning occasionally. This should only take about two minutes. 

Refrigerate the unused portion for up to one week for future meals. 

Canned meats can make a very nice occasional treat for your crabs. The trick is finding one packed only in water, with minimal or no salt added. These wild sardines had a bit of sea salt, and cost $2.50 at Whole Foods. 

One can of sardines can last a very, very long time if stored correctly. 

You'll need:

• a can of meat
• a gallon freezer bag
• a plate
• optional: strainer
• optional: fork or knife
• optional: cutting board

Since these sardines contained added salt, I decided to use a strainer to rinse them in cool tap water, followed by de-chlorinated water to remove some of the salt. 

Break the meat into small clumps with your fingers or a fork. Lay the gallon ziplock bag flat on top of a cutting board or other flat and portable surface.

Seal the bag and put it in the freezer, still laid flat. You'll now have easily portioned clumps to feed your crabs for months to come.
