How to Make Your Own Pyramid Juggling Balls

IMG_4001.jpg
Learn to make your own pyramid juggling balls out of cloth and rice!

It is best to use curtain material or something of similar strength that doesn't fray easily. You can also get creative in the colours you use as these are juggling balls that you are making! The measurements of 12cm triangle sides used here is suitable for kids of about 10 years old or younger. You may want to experiment with 14cm sides for bigger hands. I sewed these pyramids by hand, but a sewing machine can also be used for quicker production.  It is also worth noting that using rice as filling is not water or rat friendly. Plastic pellets are harder to acquire but your pyramids will last longer.

Materials and Equipment Needed

The materials and equipment needed should be readily available in most classrooms or at home.

-Rice or plastic pellets
-Needles and pins
-Thread
-Funnel (can be made out of paper)
-Scissors
-Pencil
-Marker
-Ruler or sewing tape measure

Start sewing your pyramid from left to right as shown. Keep stitches close together so that the rice won't fall out! In my diagrams I have only used single stitching, but for stronger, longer lasting pyramids go back and stitch over the edges again.

Turn Pyramid Right Side Out

Your pyramid is currently inside out, so turn it right side out.

Fill Pyramid With Rice.

Fill your pyramid with rice. You can fill it almost to the top but don't overfill it as this will make the final stitching difficult.

Sew up the final hole in the pyramid. I have used the special invisible stitch technique but this is not important!
