Get All You Supplies Ready
For the ingredients for Creme: 500ml of milk 1/2 cup of sugar. 3 eggs a pinch of salt. 1 tsp of vanilla extract Optional (Kahlua) For the caramel you just need: 1/3 cup of sugar. 1 tablespoons of water And the tools: 2 bowls, 2 pans,5 ramekins, whisk, cake pan, strainer, and a ladle. NOTES: I personally like adding a little of Khalua. It adds more flavor, And taste great for me and adults. Just kidding, kids could also have some if you add a little. And also you don't have to add caramel, most people like it without it. It still tastes good either way you choose.
Starting to Make Caramel
First you grab a pan and mix in the water and sugar. And set it in high heat. Once it starts to bubble up it can start to Change colors quickly so you have to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't burn. I usually put it in ramekins when it starts to turn caramel brown. And make sure to cover up the bottom of the ramekins so it's nicely coated
Starting to Make Creme
Pour your milk in saucepan in medium high heat. And let that boil a little, once you see bubbles in edge of pan in a little. You turn off the heat and put it somewhere to cool down for at least 10 minutes. Then in your other bowl, mix your salt, sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs. To be well combined. When milk is cooled down, you pour a little bit of milk to your other pan and mix and the add more till all of it is in one bowl, when you are doing this you are tempering them. Note: For the milk I like putting half of almond milk and regular milk. I do it because the almond milk puts less calories in flan.
Making It Soft
Once we finished tempering it. The next we do is strain it out, because sometimes the heat of milk while tempering will cook pieces of egg. And we don't want that. We want the creme to be nice and smooth. And when we finished straining it out we could now put them in our ramekins. You put your ramekins in cake pan.And with a ladel we can even it out or whatever amounts you want to put. I sometimes put more in one of them for I could get that one later for a eating.
Getting It Cooked
Now that we got our ramekins ready with creme. We have to put some hot water to boil and when that's done we put hot water half way up the ramekins. We are putting ramekins In a water bath. This helps creme or flan get soft. Now preheat oven to 340F.(170C) for 30 minutes. When the flan or creme caramel is done let it out of pan for 10 minutes, then when they have cooled off put them in refrigerator overnight. This helps flan absorbs the caramel. And enjoy the next day. INFORMATION: I learned this recipe from Eugine kitchen a year ago and I give her thanks for this recipe but I've been trying new things with this recipe to make it special.
