How to Make a Wired In/broken Clock Work

Hello. Ive taken a school clock and turned into a battery operated one for under $10.

Step 1: Gather Your Matrials

You will need:
1) Your broken clock (duh)
2) An old clock or a motor (you can get one at Micheals for $8.99)
3) A screwdriver
4) A battery
5) Wall putty (if you want the original hands to work)

Step 2: Locate the Motor

The motor should be covered for performance reasons so unscrew the cover to reval the motor.

Step 3: Figure Out How to Expose the Hands

Figure out how to pop the glass and rim (if there is one) so when the time comes take out the hands.

Step 4: Dismantle the Motor

Take apart the motor. Save everything (if you want) in case if you need it for a diffrent project.
NOTE: With this clock (Simplex brand) a gear was attached to all of the hands. You may need to take a hammer to pry it off. Also if the second hand dosen't work use a diffrent one or a similar one.

Step 5: Insert the Motor

Make sure there is a big enough hole. If its too big try to center it out as best as you can.

Step 6: Insert the Nut to Hold the Motor

Insert the nut to hold the motor. Insert them in this order:
1) Rubber
2) Washer
3) Nut
Get the nut on as GOOD as POSSIBLE otherwise the hour hand will appear incorrectly.

Step 7: Insert the Hands

If you want to use the original hands apply the wall putty to the the hands.

Step 7.5: Install the Hands

Install the hands at 12 o' clock. Install in this order:
1) hour hand
2) minute hand
STOP DONT INSTALL SECOND HAND YET! MOVE TO THE NEXT STEP!

Step 7.8: Install the Nut

Make sure that the nut that holds the minute hand isnt on too tight otherwise it won't move. If the nut's on too loose it will fall to the 6. Now install the second hand.

Step 8: Test the Clock

Before actually using the clock move the hands to make sure they move. Make sure the hour hand moves to every number when the minute hand is at 12.

Step 9: Reinstall the Glass (and the Rim)

The glass should either screw or snap on along with the rim cause the rim holds the glass.

Step 10: Done!

All Done! Insert the AA battery and your all set to go!
