How to Make a Duct Tape Bike Pouch

This is an intermediate and useful craft to make with duct tape, and will make you smile once you finish it. But, before you do it, you might want to practice more with duct tape. The pouch goes around your bike handles, so you can store your phone or pencils or whatever in there. Hope you enjoy it!

Starting Off

First of all, you're going to need the following to make this work:

1. 2 different duct tape colors of your choice (I'm going to be using black and different patterned duct tape)

2. 2 Velcro strips, each 3 inches long

3. 2 Velcro strips, 6 inches long, by 1/4 inches (I won't be using any in this tutorial because I ran out)

4. Cardboard (optional)

Once you have these items, use your first roll of duct tape and make a double-sided fabric 16 1/2 inches by 14 inches.

Getting Your Shape

Then, you're going to want to pull op the bottom edge of your fabric and fold it over at the 6 inch mark, on top of the fabric. Then, close up the left and right edges with strips of 6 inches by 1 inch of your first color of duct tape. Mark the 1 1/2 inch mark in on the bottom edge with a marker or something. For more help with this step, look at the pictures!

Getting More Into Shape....

Pinch the left and bottom edge to form a triangle at the left corner. Pull triangle down and fold at the 1 1/2 inch mark. Hold it in pace with some of your first color of duct tape. Repeat this on the right side. The piece at the top is the flap. Cut its corners to make it look rounder. If it makes it easier, you may want to fold down the edges. Other than that, use the pictures!

Making the Straps

Cut four 22 inch strips of your second color of duct tape. Fold each of them vertically in half, hot dog style (long and thin). Set two aside. Cut two more strips, but DO NOT fold them. Take folded strips and place them in the center of each unfolded strip to make straps.

Connecting the Straps

Open the flap. On the front panel, along the top edge, mark 2 1/2 inch mark from the left corner. Take one of the straps and align left edge of one end to the mark. Press strap down and wrap it vertically around the pouch so the opposite end of the strap comes down the front. Repeat on the right side.

Adding Detail to Straps

Cover the extending pieces of of the straps with black. Overlap top edge of the flap by 1/4 inch. Trim straps so they are even.

Adding Even MORE Detail to Straps

Flip the pouch over so the front of the back panel faces up. Along center portion of left black strap, mark two 1 inch lines parallel to each other and two 1 inch lines apart. Repeat on right side.

Finishing Off the Straps!

Cut slits at the marked lines. Make sure they go ALL the way through. Take one of the folded strips from STEP 4 and push one end through the top left slit. Then pull the same end through the bottom left slit. Pull the strip through the bottom left slit. Pull the strip through each slit equally. Repeat on right side.

Securing the Straps!

From inside of the pouch, secure handlebar straps to the back of the pouch, using extra pieces of duct tape. Then, put the extra bit of the handlebar straps stick out through the bottom slit, so it comes through the inside. Then, roll that bit up, and secure it with a rubber band, so you can tighten or loosen the handlebar strap when you want. Repeat on both handlebar straps.

Attaching the Velcro

Attach the shorter strips of Velcro to the extending ends of the closure straps and the longer strips of Velcro to the ends of the handlebar straps. To add extra support to the bottom of the bag, you can add cardboard.
