I'm not sure if this is an authentic Derby day substitute for a Mint Julep but it's a sure tasty drink none the less. There are a lot of cocktails called Derby. One of the most common is just gin and peach bitters. This variation is a pretty classic sour with sweet vermouth providing an interesting contrast.

Let's make sure you've got all the ingredients you need.
1.5 oz Johnny Drum bourbon
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz Carpano Antica vermouth
Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Preparation

Combine all ingredients except the mint into a shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a rocks glass over ice (one large preferably). Garnish with mint.
