How to Make String Hearts

In this instructable I will show you how to make a chubby string heart. It is basically a repeat  of a previous Instructable that I posted last Easter, String Easter Eggs which is made from wrapping string dredge through a stiffener around a balloon.  This time around I am using two balloons to form a heart shape, making this fun Valentines craft.

What You Will Need

  • yarn, string, or embroidery floss
  • balloons (if you can find heart shaped balloons even better -I couldn't find any)
  • white glue
  • a small container to hold glue mixture
  • a pin to pop the balloon
  • glitter

Inflate

Inflate two balloons making sure that they are the same size. Place them side by side and tie the ends together with string.  The string on the end can be used later to hang up the balloons to dry.

Glue

In my String Easter Egg instructable I used a sugar mixture as a stiffener, it works well but I wanted to try something different this time so I used white glue. I used a mixture of roughly half glue half water and mixed it in a small plastic container.  Dredge the string through the glue mixture and wrap around the two balloons.  Wrap tightly to hold the two balloons together.  Keep wrapping until you have a dense network of string criss-crossing the heart.

Sparkle

Sprinkle some glitter on the heart while the glue is still wet.  Hang the heart to dry and place something underneath to collect the drips.

Pop!

Allow the glue to dry completely (give it about a day) then pop it with a pin.  Fish out your balloon pieces from the inside of the heart and add a string if you want to hang it.
