Making The Yarn
Take a plastic bag and cut off the handles and the attached bottom portion.
Your will now have a rectangle with 2 open ends.
Cut up 1.5 in. strips horizontally across the bag.
You will now have several loops of plastic, cut them so that they make long strips, then tie them together to create 1 long strip.
This will be your yarn.

Cast on 60 stitches, continue knitting to make about 18 in.
Cast off by crocheting the edge after the 18 in. are knitted.
Fold the rectangle in half (hamburger style, so the bag is wider horizontally) and crochet the two ends to the rectangle together, creating a bag.

The Handles

Braid 20 in. strips together to form a 14 in. braid. The strips can be doubled for more sturdiness, as shown in the picture below.
At the end of each side of the braid, leave a 5 in. tail.
You may choose how long or how far in to the bag you want your handles to be. I attached my my handles about 5 in. in and put a handle on both sides of the bag.
To attach the handle
Take 3 leftover ends of the braid and tie each of the in to 3 different loops that are at the opening edge of the bag. Choose loops that are as close together as possible and knot them. Do the same for the other side of the braid.
Repeat this for the other handle on the other side of the bag.
Tying the knots in the 3 different loops make the handles more stable on the bag.

Finished Bag

Now you have your finished bag!
If you do not like the leftover ends of the yarn sticking out, you can use the crochet hook to weave them in so that they are now visible.
