How to Keep Fresh Herbs Fresh

This is a brief Instructable on how to keep your herbs fresh.

Of course the best way to keep herbs fresh is to grow them yourself and pick them when you need it. Unfortunately, I don't get very much direct sunlight in my place and every attempt to grow my own herbs has failed, so instead I buy bunches of them from the grocery store or farmers market. However, I found that within a day or two of sitting in my refrigerator they start to wilt.

This Instructable will show you a quick and easy way to store herbs in your refrigerator so that they stay fresh for well over a week.

Materials

You will need the following:

-a container such as a jar, glass or mug
-water
-scissors or knife
-plastic bag -I use the thin bags that they have in the produce section of a grocery store
-bunch of herbs that you wish to store such as parsley, cilantro, or any other herb still on its stem

Prepare Herbs

Cut tips off the ends of the stem, about 1cm or so.
Add water to container, not all the way to top, leave some room for displacement.

Place Herbs in Container

Place herbs in container, put plastic bag over top of herbs and put the whole thing
in refrigerator. The plastic bag should remain open at the bottom to let air in.

Enjoy Your Fresh Herbs

To use herbs, just reach under plastic bag and snip off what you need.
If you would like, change the water after a week so they last longer.
