How to Etch a Design on a Beer Glass.

Custom Etched Beer Glass / How To with Gearbox Designs

In this video I will show you how to etch a design onto a beer glass.

I use a vinyl cutter and a sandblaster in this lesson, but there are many ways to get this done.

Preparing Stencil.

I use a vinyl cutter to create my stencil that I will apply to the glass. You could also print your design and cut out the stencil with an exacto knife.

Apply your stencil to a clean glass. You can use rubbing alcohol to clean the glass by adding a sprayer from an old spray bottle to the top of the alcohol bottle. Spray it and wipe it off. Once its dry your stencil will stick nicely. Mask off any exposed glass with masking tape.

In the video I use a sandblaster to etch the glass but you can buy Armour Etch or a similar etching creme from most craft stores.

If you are using a sandblaster, 50 - 70 psi is a good pressure for etching. I use aluminum oxide in my blaster, and this is something you can pick up from Harbor Freight or tractor supply for pretty cheap. Be sure to wear a mask when doing this... that stuff is pretty funky!

Remove Stencil and Clean Glass.

After you are satisfied with your etching, its now time to remove your stencil and clean the glass up.

Enjoy!

All done! Now pour something nice and dark in there.... preferably something with some type of delicious hops!
