How to Work Reverse Single Crochet

When changing colors in crochet using the tapestry technique, sometimes the work doesn’t come out as well defined as we would like to be. That’s why at We Are Knitters we are always trying to innovate and look for new techniques that give us the most perfect pieces possible!

So, we’ve invented a stitch: REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET!!!! We’re going to show you an example below, so that you don’t miss any of the details of this technique. Using a simple jacquard pattern, we want to crochet flat, but we also want it to be completely reversible. We followed a chart and started working as usual in single crochet. We chose a simple chevron design worked in two colors of The Pima Cotton from We Are Knitters and used a 5mm crochet hook.

Work the right side rows as you always do.

When you get to a wrong side row, follow these steps*.

*Attention! Remember to make one extra chain at the beginning of the row. Bring the yarn to the front.

Now insert the hook into the stitch from back to front.

Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through. You will have two strands on the hook.

Wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull it through the two strands on the hook. And now, you have made a reverse single crochet. As you can see, the texture that results is much more defined. Here’s a photo of the wrong side.
