How to Wax the Chin at Home
Hello everyone! My name is Kenna. I've been struggling with facial hair for over 10 years. Taking the initiative and teaching myself how to wax my chin at home has given me a great deal of confidence I never thought I would have. I'm here to give each of you that same confidence in just a few steps in the comfort of your own home.
Supplies
wax
micellar water
wooden applicator sticks
cloth strips
tweezers
cotton pads
exfoliant
finishing oil
mirror
Exfoliating
Start by exfoliating the chin the night before the waxing session. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and loosens the hair, allowing for better waxing results. Next, cleanse the skin by using a cotton pad and micellar water 5-10 minutes before it’s time to wax. This rids any dirt or makeup area and leaves the skin clean and ready for wax.
Warming the Wax
Once the skin is cleansed, take off the lid and microwave the jar of wax for 30-45 seconds. After the wax is heated, the middle will look sunken down and glossy. Head back to the bathroom. Take an applicator stick in the dominant hand and hold it at either end, practice by twirling it in between the fingers. When that motion feels comfortable, check the consistency of the wax. The wax should be the consistency of honey or pancake batter. If the wax is too runny, let it cool for 1- 2 minutes.
Dropping Off the Wax
Given the wax is at the right consistency, begin by dipping the applicator stick into the wax approximately 2 inches deep. Pull out the applicator stick and begin that same twirling motion that was practiced. Bring the wax to the left side of the thin chin and drop off the wax at the top of the chin where the hair starts. Now, scrape both sides of the applicator off onto the skin. Once the wax is dropped off, twist the applicator stick to the side so the edge of the stick is perpendicular to the skin. While following the same direction that the hair grows, scrape the wax down to the bottom of the chin stopping where the hair ends.
Placing the Cloth Strip
Set the applicator stick down on the edge of the wax jar. Place a cloth strip directly over the top of the wax, leaving approximately 2 inches of cloth at the bottom for leverage. Now, smooth over the top of the strip to ensure coverage over the entire wax area. Pinch the excess 2 inches of cloth at the bottom in between the thumb and index finger using the dominant hand. Place the non-dominant hand directly underneath the cloth strip. Using two fingers, pull the skin down firmly making the skin taught.
Removing the Cloth Strip
Take a deep breath in through the nose. Exhale hard through the mouth and simultaneously pull the strip parallel to the skin in the opposite direction of hair growth as quickly as possible. Keeping the strip parallel to the skin reduces the chance of the skin being pulled, which can lead to more sensitivity. Repeat this process working left to right, using a new cloth strip for each section of wax. Be careful not to apply wax over the same area more than once, this can lead to extreme skin irritation.
Finishing Oil
As soon as the session is completed, place a small dab of the finishing oil, included in the wax kit, onto another cotton pad and rub it into the chin. This removes any excess wax and gives a soothing sensation to the skin.
Tweezing
Finish by plucking any left-over hairs with the tweezers. Don’t be alarmed if any bleeding occurs as a small amount of blood is normal. Most times the skin will be red and sensitive to the touch; it should subside within 2-3 hours of waxing. If needed, place an icepack over the area for 10-15 minutes, or until needed. Allow time for the wax to cool down. Place the lid back onto the jar and store the wax kit in a cool, dry place.
