How to Wash and Re-twist Natural Locs

Having natural locs adds to the beauty of a person. Locs has been around for years in many different cultures. the African American has adopted the loc style and has transformed them in many different styles and ways to maintain and grow locs. Many thought locs was originated in Africa but they where originated in India back in the B.C. era. The process of growing and maintaining locs can be so overwhelming and time consuming but they are beautiful and stylish once you get how you want them.

Supplies

Natural conditioner
Natural shampoo
Rat tail combs ( optional)
Pin tail comb
Single or double prong clips
Shine and jam ( Or any edge control)
Towel
Sit under hair dryer

Washing Locs

Wet the hair with water and lather with natural shampoo while massaging the scalp. Make sure to cover whole head with shampoo. Rinse hair thoroughly and repeat previous step.

Conditioning Locs

After shampooing hair twice apply conditioner and let it sit on locs for 10 minutes ( never apply conditioner for more than 20 minutes for it softens the locs.) After 10 minutes rinse thoroughly and towel dry.

Beginning Re-twist

Now that the hair is free of oils we are ready to start twisting. Take the hair that is already parted from previous re-twist and pull across so the parts can remain the same. Once you have the hair parted and the other locs pinned up you can apply the jam on the scalp.

Beginning Re-twist Continue

Once the Shine and Jam is on the scalp you will take the rat tail or pin tail comb and comb down all the new grow hair into the loc. Once all the new grow is into the loc you will give it a fresh part and re-twist in the direction the loc has been started previously. (It is very important to re-twist all locs in the same directions from when they were first started to prevent unraveling.)

Re-twisting Locs

Once loc is re-twisted from the scalp you can now apply a single or double prong to hold the loc in place so it will not unravel. When re-twisting longer locs you can use the “palm re-twist” method but when re-twisting short locs its best to use a rat tail or a special comb just for locs. Repeat steps 4-5 until entire head is completed it is time to sit under dryer.

Drying Locs

Once all the locs are re-twisted with prongs on them, it is time to sit under the dryer for 30-45 minutes. Sitting under the dryer allows the re-twisted locs to dry and not unravel after the prongs are removed from the locs.

Finishing/styling Locs

After the locs are all dry, the prongs can now be removed and the locs can now be styled to any desire look. A re-twist on natural locs can last anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on new growth.
